I was just impersonated on here

Anonymous
While DCUM's anonymous forum definitely has advantages, there are also some cons to consider. Here's a big one: I was just literally impersonated.

Here's what happened. I made a post, which was fairly popular. Someone eventually responded to the thread with a comment beginning "OP here". They continued, throughout the comment, to state that they were me. They even made up lies about my children and the situation I was posting about. It was extremely frightening.

Honestly, I feel so deeply nauseated by this experience that I'm questioning using DCUM in the future. I don't wish to be impersonated again. Is there anything on this site that prevents such a thing from happening? Because my guess is that I'm not the only one who's been through this. And let me tell you: it doesn't feel so good.

Stop the drama! You are not being impersonated. We are all Anonymous. We are all OP, PP and DP

I mean obviously you could stop posting anonymously.

Nauseated? Threatening to leave? OK. On the thread you can just write- "I'm the real OP- not sure who posted that other stuff. Anyways, here's my real actual comment"
People lose interest anyway and there's sockpuppeting, so it doesn't really matter...

I think this is really dramatic.

Most likely someone was in a similar situation and trying to hijack to get better advice, or, they genuinely thought they were the OP. Lots of people who come here frequently forget what they did or didn't post. I know I do sometimes!

I do not think you need to be afraid. But if you are one of the people who posts with an actual user name that would be odd (also don't do that).

There is a report button - report all the fake posts and Jeff will delete them.

And if you are taking it so hard, yes, it might be a good idea to refrain from starting new threads IMHO.

Find the post again and click the report button. Explain why you want the post deleted, and any other that this particular IP address has made for that thread. Jeff will take care of it.

And stop your hand-wringing. There are trolls on DCUM, and it's the occasional price to pay to get free anonymous advice online.

Two things I suggest are:

1) create a username and login to post; and
2) post messages like this in Website Feedback.

Because this thread has nothing to do with General Parenting, I am going to lock it.
