I have the same phone and drive the same two cars I've driven for years, but CarPlay has gotten really glitchy lately. Sometimes it takes a while to pop up. Other times I have to unplug the cord to make it come up. It is absolutely refusing to read me texts or let me dictate anything. So far, google maps and my audiobooks are playing fine. I don't talk on the phone that much in the car, but no problems from what I've seen.
I've checked that the app is up to date. I have cords in each car, so it isn't the cord. One car is a Toyota Sienna and the other is a Hyundai Santa Fe, so it seems unlikely that both cars might have the same issue. Anyone else run into similar problems or have ideas for how to solve this? |
Yes and I changed the cord and it worked. I bought a new cord. Can you try that even though you said it works? |
This is OP. I will try it! By chance do you have one of the adapter cords that let the newer iphones plug into an older car socket? There are names for all of these ends but I do not know them. Ordering now... |
I have these issues too. Yesterday I had to pull over on the on-ramp to the beltway, turnoff my car, then turn it back on to get CarPlay to work. 2021 Toyota. |
I’ve had these issues intermittently on a 2018 Honda for the entire time I’ve owned it. Now DD is having the issue on her 2024 Nissan. Over the years I’ve had 3 different iphones and many different cords so I think it’s CarPlay or the car. Sometimes unplugging and replugging or restarting the car or phone can help but it’s hit or miss. I love Apple CarPlay but hate the glitchiness. |
I recently learned some cords work better with CarPlay than others. Look for a carplay specific cord. |
My Toyota does CarPlay over WiFi. Highly recommended. |
Disconnect iPhone from car's USB port, turn off car's infotainment system, forget CarPlay on your iPhone, restart your iPhone and then re-connect CarPlay |
The latest iOS update 18.4.1 contained a fix for CarPlay issues:

I’m just coming back to this right now and I saw your post. Sorry I do not know the name of that adapter and I hope your car issues are fixed either via the update or the new cord.. |
+1. This is often the issue for me. What also sometimes helps: -Turning off the car, opening the door, then closing it, and restarting the car with the car’s app already open on my phone -Turning off any app-based or device-based VPN on my phone |
So glad I found this thread, CarPlay has been glitchy for months and I thought it was because of my new car and my kid’s new to her car. |
I don’t try to use CarPlay anymore. I just let the phone talk from the cup holder. That’s good enough for me. I don’t need a visual. I didn’t need visuals for 30 years pre-phone! |
I use CarPlay with WiFi. Sometimes my phone’s location randomly moves about 200 feet over, which wrecks complete havoc with mapping and navigation. I have no idea why it does it, but it’s always when I’m traveling for work and need it desperately to find where I’m going. |
