2009 PPA is way better than Potomac. But I agree with you on 2011 onwards. Potomac has a stronger base they just always lose the top to Bethesda usually in the u10-12 range. |
We know multiple families who are on Potomac Girls teams across several age groups and have heard positive things. Sounds like they are trying to grow the girls side and this seems like a good next step. Promising and strong teams in the "pre-years" and families seem very happy and willing to grow with the club. |
PPA 2011 & 2012 are weak. But 2013 on down they good to excellent. |
| Pick the coach you like the best.... |
I’m sure they are good teams but at both age groups Potomac has won in every recent head to head match up between the two. |
If Potomac loses top to Bethesda usually in U10 -12 range, then likely same dynamic probably plays out for PPA. Aspire starts at U13, so moving forward could be different dynamic for each club, .... From both clubs, there may be less fleeing to other ECNLs, if they see their clubs moving onto GA. Bethesda will be less of the "elephant in the room" (and a somewhat mysogonistic and overly bro-ish one at that.) |
Hard to do when Potomac still hasn’t posted its girls slate for next year. |
NP: Why does Potomac not have their current team attend the tryout sessions? |
No clue why Potomac isn’t doing that either. When we played their 2013G 1st team. We could see there is a good amount of talent on that team. But there were maybe a few that struggled. I’m hearing that team isn’t being mandated to try out . 🤔🤔 Wierd that they’re doing it that way … also .. heard the rumor that their current coach won’t be their coach anymore. They’re getting a former coach from BSA that left a few years ago . 🤷♂️🤷♂️. |
It's not that they don't have to re-try out - it's that current players are/have been assessed all year long. No one on the current team is guaranteed a spot on next year's teams. My understanding is current players will (or will not) receive offers for next year for whichever team they are assessed to be the best fit on and that may or may not be their current team. |
That may be, buts it’s always good for everyone to see everyone. You want to see what the skill level of the team you are trying out for is, and the current players should be looked at in context of potential new players. |
| We were confused about the tryout decision initially too, but when you look at the messaging it seems to make sense. The directors sent an email circulation explaining that the coaches have already reviewed players for a full year and tryouts are a waste of everyone’s time pretty much for current players, they don’t want to put players through it when not necessary - it seems unusually thoughtful for travel soccer!! We have been told about coaches for next year, not sure who the BSA coach is from PP, we are not with 2013 group. |
| With the club moving to GA Aspire, I do wish they would require all girls to go through the process of attending an actual tryout session. I don't think it's a waste of time. It's a good reminder about the need to stay competitive. And if you don't want to, and make soccer a lesser part of your life, that's a fine decision. But then accept that you won't start, or will be moved to a lower level team. And it's a good way to see all the players (current and new) mixed together. |
Agree 💯 |
Wish more coaches instilled life lessons like this in young girls and boys, the value of work ethic, always compete, never take your top team spot for granted even if you've been playing lights out all year long. Unless there's an injury risk, kids should all be at tryouts, no lollygagging and practice like you play. |
