Everyone told me you don't need a changing table. I didn't listen and bought one. It was one of the best buys we made. We loved having the changing table and it was used regularly.
I think you have to do what is best for you. |
I had a changing table with my son and I used it a lot and loved it. Thought I won't get it this time for my new babies. and I totally regret it now. There is still time and I am going to get one soon. sitting on the bed or anywhere else, even changing in the crib for me has been painful. I am struggling with where to put the diaper, where to find the wipes etc etc. Maybe I am just not a good organizer, many people don't use it do great. I need to be better organized somehow! |
dresser works best to me. get a changing pad and stick it on top, tada! you have a changing table. |
We have a changing table upstairs, in the baby's room, and a changing pad on a chest in the living room. (Didn't want to be hauling upstairs every time.) Of the two set-ups, I prefer the changing table. The storage space is great. And, I don't love the clutter around the pad in the living room, even though I try to keep it all tidy in a little basket. |
Because there have been MANY times that I have removed a diaper, just to have my son shoot pee all over the place. I certainly don't want that stuff on my bed, carpet, or sofa. I just think things like that need to be taken care of in special designated places. BTW I have watched many people change their babies on the sofa and have even witnessed it being done in restaurant booths. Same reason why I don't whip out a bucket and take a crap in it in the middle of my living room just because I don't want to walk to the toilet. Sure the bucket will contain the crap and not get on my stuff, but can't I just take a few extra steps to do that in the toilet where it belongs? |
Our changing table is more of a glorified dresser which is something we looked for so we don't have to buy more furniture when DD is older. |
No, they are certainly not "necessary." You may find one helpful.
I would recommend, if you do get one, getting one that is on top of a dresser type thing. If you get a free-standing changing table, it's something that has a pretty short shelf life. We got one as a hand-me-down -- wouldn't have bought one otherwise -- and as soon as Kiddo could flip/roll/crawl, it was impossible to use. We switched to Kiddo's bedroom floor, and now that we're nearing potty training, we use the bathroom floor (associating bathroom functions with the bathroom and all!) Of course, you use a changing pad wherever you are, to keep any spills/sprays/smears contained! |
