| Let me get through the holidays first, then I'll start thinking about the wicked games of politics... |
| I don't get into politics, but as a African American female definitely Obama. I think its time for a change and I would love to see an African American as president in my lifetime. I don't think America is ready for that yet, So Hillary would be my second choice. |

PP - I just read your post.
So, are you voting for someone based on race and gender? Do you even consider what the candidate stands for? I'm white and Catholic, but I wouldn't vote for JFK (if I lived back in the 1960's) just because he was a white and Catholic presidential candidate. Looking at what he stood for at the time and his campaign issues, I don't think I would've agreed. That's me personally. Just curious, that is all. No need to get defensive especially since the beauty of this country is the right to a secret ballot. |
| If either of Obama or Clinton struck me as a true progressive that would not consistently compromise their values in the name of political expediency, I'd vote on the basis of race or gender. Alas I think Edwards (not a shot at winning the primaries) is far more progressive and unflinching, so that's who gets my vote in the primaries. (Wacky Kucinich is an interesting choice for domestic issues but I don't think he could hold his own on the world stage.) On the other side, I was willing to give McCain a hard look since he seems to actually talk about his ideas and values on more than a superficial level -- but I can't get behind a lot of his views. Post-primary I'll reanalyze my thinking. |
I think Obama or Clinton would do the better job out of all the candidates. I still stand by my answer and would pick Obama hands down, but I honestly don't see that happening so Id have to go with Hilliary. If Obama were white, yes he would still get my vote (first)and if Clinton were a man he'd get my vote to answer your question |
| I'll definately vote for Hilliary. She's progressive, smart, classy, she's got a good sense of what needs to be done economically. I also think she's learnt a lot through the years. Most importantly, the U.S. is in desperate need of health care for every America. Edwards and Obama in my opinion don't have enough experience although they're both really smart. |
| I would go with Hillary.....don't Iike her.....but respect her intelligence and moxy. She is a two for one special....Billy is a scum bag but realy savvy in foreign affairs.....think we could use that.....YES!! The right wing Christians scare me to death.....I am catholic (at least I thought I was before I bookmarked this site).....Americans need to get used to the fact that we are all not of the same religious belief and that is okay in America. We all don't need to shove our right wing religous beliefs down each others throats to get saved....this is America folks.....let's celebrate our differences. Don't we all remember that kid in elementary school with the cheap spirit....let's not define ourselves as a nation that way. |
| 1:24 poster: I hear ya! Are there only catholics and jews on this site??? If so.....this is not a picture of DCUM. |

I have been for Hillary since day one. Things are heating up in the race and if she doesn't come out on top, I'll vote OBAMA.
I will say the right wing Christians scare me as well..and I was raised one! Oh how people change!! Even my mother is finally turning the corner-whew!! |

McCain. He has a unique combination of appealing qualities.
(1) The foreign policy/military experience: was 1st in line among Republicans in criticizing Bush/Rumsfeld's handling of war and his criticisms appear to have been very prescient. (2) Does not kowtow to interest groups: His positions are all over the map v. towing a party line, and I respect that on each one he is acting from principal even where I don't agree with him. (Unfortunately, this seems to be killing his campaign.) (3) Bipartisanship: he has a true record of acting in a bipartisan manner (also killing his campaign). Every time either party is left entirely in control, corruption seems to ensue. But when we have divided government, it's constant sniping. I think he may represent a possible "way out" as -- due to his aforementioned lack of kowtowing -- he would be free to act using actual judgment v. fear of interest group repercussions. (4) Personal story: He is a true war hero, refusing to leave his comrades behind when offered his release as a POW. We have a true measure of the man's character, which is rare. Why he is so far down in the polls truly baffles me. |

Conservative Republican here - yep and proud of it!
Probably McCain or Thompson. Guiliani a possibility, but he's pro choice and eventhough that isn't high on the to-do list as the Middle East or the economy it is still important enough for me to sway my vote. How blessed we are to have a democracy with a variety of candidates and voting opened to all races and genders. Too bad voter turnout always seems to lack. |

To the 19:27 PP -- I'm not quite sure what you meant by the above comments. Can you clarify? |

Hillary really has the organization. I would have liked to have seen a dem emerge from the second tier, but I don't think Richardson or Biden are quite ready for prime time.
I'm for anyone who can defeat the Republicans. Whenever they're at the helm, the dems always have to come in and clean up afterwards. I'm for bringing back the respect and admiration we had from the world in the Clinton years, the optimism and the good will. I'll never forget Clinton in Northern Ireland. The relatively calm tranquility of those years. Flash to now -- the ugliness of Bush/Cheney -- zero-funding orgs the boys and girls club for example, screwing little kids out of health coverage, a senseless war, the arrogant contempt for the rest of the world, those shameless pre-election terror alerts, Bush wearing his ignorance like a badge of honor (nuculur)...The list goes on. Proud to be a democrat! |

Hillary Clinton. I think Obama seems very likable, but I don't find him a credible candidate after only 3 years in the Senate. After reading a great deal about Hillary, I am impressed by her experience and commitment, as well as her intelligence.
I'm curious about why Obama is identified as black, and why he self-identifies in that way. He's biracial; his mother is a white woman from Kansas, and I believe she raised him. I'd like to understand more about his sense of racial identity. |
