ISO - Washington School of Ballet

Hi,

My 5 year old daughter loves ballet and she has been accepted to register for a pre-ballet class ( once a week for 45 min.) at Washington School of Ballet.
However, I'm a little worried about traffic from Potomac to the ballet school (NW D.C.) and her school schedule, from 9:15am-3:30pm.
If you have any comments, please let me know.

Thanks.

We are in VA and several kids from my child's school go there for lessons after school. They all think its a great program and one girl was even in the Nutcracker last year. I think getting there isn't a problem, but you would probably have traffic going home afterwards. The teachers seem great, and Septime Weber is a great spokesperson.

My DD was also admitted into pre-ballet for the Fall but we have decided not to do it because the commute would make the whole experience less fun for her, and for her little sibling who would dragged along. She had the final say and opted not to do it, even though she would have been in the same class as a good friend of hers. She is very excited about going to our local ballet school that is 5 minutes away from our house. If she wants to pursue it more seriously later, we will re-apply.

Long ago (frighteningly so, it seems like!) I used to be a ballet dancer. I'd like to introduce my DD to dance in the next couple years. So, I have actually put some thought into this. I live near OP, so commuting is on my mind. I know Washington Ballet from experience. Septime is simply awesome. But it is a little far and you might want to think about another good school that's closer to home -- especially while your daughter is young and just feeling it out. Have you considered Maryland Youth Ballet in Silver Spring, or American Dance Institute in Rockville? I know MYB has a great program (Jennifer Cox comes with glowing references from my friends who still dance, and I've taken some adult classes there) and have heard very good things about ADI.
