Would you put this in the crib with a 4 month old?

I am worried it might cover her face and could be a safety hazard? DH thinks I'm being too cautious!

I absolutely would not. You're right.

I wouldn't either, and would wait until the baby is older. DS has an uncanny ability to pull over his face whatever piece of fabric is nearby.

not yet.

Crib safety tips:

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5030.html

There is a developmental reason for it. They won't prevent anyting that will block their air passage,
they will just stop breathing. YOu are the only thing between them and suffocation. Remove all
that is not safe and might cause suffocation.

Toys are just the beginning, but think also aobut bupmers and alike.

BF babies learn to pull away from the breast early on if they get their nose squished. it's an exercise and normal part of the development.
I would keep the stuff out of the crib until the baby has good head control.

Yeah, I would just wait until the baby shows you that there's good head control and coordination before using these things.

OP, I agree w/you. I wouldn't put that in the crib.

What does head control have to do with it? my 5 mo old has good head control but loves to put fabric over her face.

I would wait until the baby is older - I would have felt ok with it from about 7 months up. My son never liked putting fabric over his face/head or anything though. He tended to smush his blankets up to make them into a little "pillow."

But then again, whats with the breastfeeding PSA? Give it a rest, or go on mothering.com where they get off on talking about how superior their boobs are.

I started putting something like that at around 8 months. I still went in and checked to make sure she wasn't stuffing it in her face. She still sleeps with is now at 25 months.

A baby with good head control can move their face if unable to breath I think is what the PP was saying, but it takes a little while for them to have the skills to actually know to do that.

NOt at this age op. My baby (soon to be 7 months) used to put any fabrics within her range over her face but didn't know how to take it off when she was younger, so when she was alone I always made sure she never had anything around her.

Now she knows how to pull it off, but I am still not confortable leaving things like that around her when she will be alone for some time, like in the crib. However, I do let her have Sophie. http://www.amazon.com/Vulli-Sophie-Giraffe-Teether-Brown/dp/B000IDSLOG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1281886141&sr=8-1
