My middle school DS has had a tough time with his writing assignments this year and we’d like to get him help over this summer. Can anyone recommend a writing tutor?
My son thrives on personal relationships and connecting. Bonus points if the tutor is sporty and laid back. |
| What area? I’m an MCPS teacher and have a colleague I can recommend who tutors over the summer. He’s outstanding! |

We’ve been very happy with our DS’ writing tutor. The tutor works in the same county as DS and knows the curriculum.
Feel free to email me and I’m happy to pass along contact information. sarah.juliet.weiss@gmail.com |

Good morning,
I am a middle school ELA content specialist, teaching grade 6 in county. Day care expenses for my toddler have me looking to add a tutoring client or two, so long as it doesn’t present conflict of interest limitations with the current cluster I teach in. My areas of focus are English and History, though writing instruction is my favorite! I love the additional desire for someone into sports—that’s me! Transparently, this sounds like a perfect fit. Instead of a tutor, I would send your kid to the McLean School’s writing intensive camp.
https://www.summeredge.org/program/intensive-programs-middle-school-writing/ They will give you real data of what your child’s deficiencies are at the start of the camp as well as data to show growth at the end. Your kid will make more progress in 3 weeks of half day instruction than an entire year in MCPS! |
