Recommend a good work-out DVD to use during maternity leave

Anonymous
I am two weeks post-partum and really want to try to get back in shape. I had about 15 pounds to lose before I got pregnant, gained minimally, but now find myself with around 30lbs to get rid of. More so, I just feel out of shape!

I think that my best bet is to get a couple dvds and sneak a work-out in when DC is napping. I hear alot about the "30-day shred" but is that a vible option for me if I am in pretty bad shape to begin with? As in, two flights of steps gets me mildly winded!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have been considering trying this too, so I would love feedback as well...

30 day shred might be a little to intense right away.

To slowly get back into exercise, I liked Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds DVDs. She has a few options. With them, you can incorporate hand weights if you want, or now.

I like Tae Bo too. Billy Blanks has lots of options there.

I think level 1 of the 30 day shred is less intense then tae bo. I tell myself I can do anything for 18 minutes, especially when you knock it down to 9 minutes of strength, 6 minutes of cardio and 3 minutes of abs. That is all the 30 day shred is. You can totally do it!

If you have on demand you can do the 30 day shred there on fitness tv. I also like Jackie Warners total body workout.

Start walking. I lost all of my baby weight just by walking. Then I started to build in weights by using tapes - The Firm and Jari Love. (Jillian was OK, but I wasn't a fan. But she is totally fit!) Finally, I built up to running and have recently - thanks to this forum - added kettlebells to my workouts.

So start slowly, eat right, and drink plenty of water.

Yes, walking is the best exercise if you are only 2 weeks PP.

I walked, literally, for hours with baby, and I swear that that is why I was able to lose all my baby weight within two months.

After a couple of months, I used the Pilates for Dummies DVD at home.

Another idea if you're walking is to wear a weighted vest. I wore one when I was PP and it helped make the weight come off really quickly.

OP here. Thanks for all the advice.

I actually very much enjoy walking and will certainly do that when tolerable for me and my baby. But how often is that going to be in August? I wouldn't have been comfortable taking my 2wo out in the heat for an hour today (and would have hated it myself.) I guess I'm looking for something for the rest of August until the weather is reliably tolerable.

I'll have to check out OnDemand! I hadn't even thought of that.

Thanks again.

Walk at the nearest largest shopping mall. That's what my friend and I did (we lived in FL before moving to DC) until the weather got cool enough. It was actually kind of nice--the babies could cry, and it wasn't a big deal. If you find a mall with a Nordstrom, that would be best because Nordies has the nicest women's lounges of all the major dept stores. The babies also tended to fall asleep near water fountains (I think the sound was very soothing for them.) We'd also be sure to treat ourselves to a coffee at Starbucks as part of our walk.
