Brainstorming here DCUM! We have the opportunity to live in Europe for a couple years for my spouse’s job. Kids will be 5 and 7 when we go. DH and I have been a handful of places but have not travelled extensively, and all our European travel was pre-kids. What have been your favorite places to visit with kids? All seasons welcome as their international school will have breaks, and I’m even thinking about the possibility of some weekend city breaks (we’ll be in a central European city with good flight connections). We enjoy a mix of city and nature; my oldest is also really interested in visiting castles. All ideas welcome!! |
Copenhagen for sure! |
Copenhagen
Munich Barcelona All of Ireland |
Prague and Cesky Krumlov. They have castles and keep bears in them. |
Zermatt, but really anywhere German-speaking, great for kids
Ireland |
Bears? I’ve been to Prague and don’t remember that at all. But I think Czechia in general would be fun with kids! There are castles all over. |
The Efteling in the Netherlands. Built in the 1950s, it is a magical fairy-tale based amusement park. With your kids, you'll probably spend most of your time in the Sprokjesbos (fairy tale forest) where fairy tales have been recreated and are interactive. |
I've really enjoyed visiting these museums in the Czech Republic with my 10-year-old kid 😊
Museum of Fantastic Illusions: https://muzeumfantastickychiluzi.cz/en/ Museum of Senses: https://museumofsenses.cz/en And seeing the largest private Lego collection in the world at the Museum of Bricks was absolutely amazing: https://museumofbricks.cz/en For getting around in the Czech Republic, check out this Ultimate Guide: https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism-in-czech-republic-statistics-2023-the-ultimate-guide-5565 Hope you and your kid have a blast checking out these family-friendly museums! 😊 |
Ireland! Took DD last year when she was 9 and she loved it!
Switzerland, she loves the cows with bells, hiking mountains with snow in the summer, snowshoeing and skiing in winter (you don't have to go to big fancy expensive places to ski. every village has a ski run). August 1st is their independence day and tons of cities have festivals to celebrate. |
Are you interested in Munich, Ireland, Copenhagen, Barcelona, or Brussels? If so, I can write a detailed reply. We've spent 3 months in each of those places with our two young kids. |
I took my kids on their first European trip to Copenhagen — it was perfect |
Ireland really was fun. The Irish were
So kind to my 2 year old. It’s such an easy country to travel in. We went because we had a wedding but then ended up loving it. |
London |
Austria is amazing and super kid friendly. The mountain towns have so many great kid activities and amazing public swimming pools/ water parks along with gorgeous scenery and great hiking (Zell am see, mayrhofen/zell am ziller). Much cheaper than Switzerland and food is way better. Salzburg and Vienna are also great with tons to do. |
I just have to ask (we made the same move a few years back) if you are moving to Germany, and if so, FIS? |
