What is the best HS for DD for volleyball?

Anonymous
DD is going into the 8th grade and has been playing club volleyball and is apart of the first team for a respected club team. She really wants to continue to play volleyball for a HS team. What schools should we put at the top of the list to consider during this upcoming admissions season?

I'd suggest your next step be looking into a travel team before deciding on a specific school. Travel VB is quite different than rec and she may learn she doesn't love it as much as she thought once she gets on a travel team.

Look HS sports change year to year. It usually depends on the junior and senior classes. If best players are seniors you can win states and next year not break 500. So if you are talking about “winning” those result change. Look for a school that has a JV and varsity.

I played D1 volleyball and coach intermittently when time allows. High school doesn’t matter one iota unless you play for a top high school in the country like Assumption. It’s great you’re doing your research and asking the question, but club is often an exercise of breaking bad habits taught and/or learned in HS.

Are you having a laugh? Flint Hill is far and away the best HS in the region (public and private) and I don’t think have lost a set in the ISL in about 7 years. GDS is a clear second but after that, it all depends on how many club players they have in that year. Bullis were in the A (lower) division until this year and have a couple of decent club players but they got hammered by Flint Hill and, I believe lost to a couple other teams. The pecking order is Flint Hill by a mile, GDS, then half a mile to Bullis, Potomac and Stone Ridge then another mile to Holton and Madeira.

I was told that the Academy of the Holy Cross was one of the best teams in the area.

They and O’Connell are the top of the tree in the Catholic league. Both are significantly better than anyone else in the ISL, other than Flint Hill.

AHC, OConnell and SJC. Then there is a big dropoff.

Nah…Flint Hill is top it seems like that’s where metro travel players go.

Flint Hill is the top of the top followed by Holy Cross.

If you are not in the pipeline don't expect to play much unless you are 6'3 and above.

Metro players go to Flint Hill and Holy Cross

This. The PP read the (notoriously unreliable) ISL standings and saw that GDS was at the top. Didn't notice that order seemed to be based on overall number of wins. Didn't notice that the standings on their face suggest that numerous games aren't being reported.
