Heard rumors that they lost GA patch for next season? Anyone have some info?

Yep; membership not being renewed after this spring. Heard it was a combo of poor results and confusion about who was in control after the Metro and Alexandria merger.

Unfortunately, this is another example of adults who can't handle business appropriately (and play nicely) adversely affecting our youth. The club has not been competitive since joining GA, except for the current U19 team. From what I've heard, the Alexandria "merger" hasn't been the answer and next year they are joining the USYS National League.

Sucks for the players and their families. Id sessions and tryouts will be busy this spring.

This is terrible news as the GA is a great bridge between DC and PG county Maryland where competitive girls soccer is next to nothing unless you want to travel either too Leesburg or Boyd's Maryland. The Alexandria community has such diversity vs the surrounding area and welcomes kids from other areas with open arms to join the programs. I think some of the older age groups may not have been that deep and competitive as other clubs but the up and coming girls age groups definitely were going to make some huge splashes. I hear some of the decision was based upon clubs performance but if you really dig deep into some of the other GA teams stats you could easily say there are bigger fish to fry than ASA. Is there a way for the community to petition this?

I think the decision is unfortunate for some of the younger ASA families that may have looked at their GA team as an option as their players age up. I don't know much about how Metro performed prior to their merger last year but if they've been fielding poor performing teams since the inception of GA then the decision makes sense I guess. My only gripe is maybe they didn't give the merger long enough to see if it would affect the teams in a positive way since its only been a year. I think ASA has a pretty strong 2012 group but those players wouldn't qualify for GA until after this next year.

That's the problem with girls soccer. For the boys they had all the time in the world to get them developed. GA has had to assume that ASA talent for 13 and above had to move on due to not having ECNL or GA so the smart move was to get the girls that are being developed. The 2012 ASA girls are one of the top teams in the country and i think a good mix of them and the 2011's couldn't been really competitive for next year. Playing up for that team has never been a problem as they have always played high level competition. The 2013's are looking pretty good too. Big loss on GA's parts as i truly believe the 2012's when they would've become GA would probably easily be a top GA team in country. Hopefully this gets resolved or ASA is just going to create a pipeline for the surrounding clubs. I've seen the other clubs in the area and as good as they are, they are not developed like the ASA girls. They play one maybe 2 positions if they are lucky. They kick the ball up field and may there best player get it.

Sadly that kick and chase/playing direct style of soccer is commonplace around here.

and on those kick and chase teams that i have met 13 and above, there top players are usually from ASA and are the ones trying to move the ball around. I really hope ASA and GA get there SH%^ together.

Metro united has always had issues from the time it started. Let's not pretend like this is a one-off problem.

I really wasn't familiar with them; has their on field performance always been poor?

i don't think it was the greatest but compared to other GA teams i wouldn't say they were the worst. I think that the GA wasn't going to see results until the younger ASA players got a chance. Most of the good ASA players are already committed to other clubs since when they turned 13 they didn't have anything at ASA to stay for.
