Are there any local farm co-ops where you can sign up and get fresh produce every week and they deliver to Silver Spring or nearby?
I have heard of this in DC, but I can't manage to drive to U Street every week for produce... Thanks! |

Door-to-Door Organics?

I am a customer of Washington Green Grocer (www.washingtonsgreengrocer.com). They deliver a box weekly to my house in Rockville- we used to live in Silver Spring and they delivered to us there as well so I'm sure you are in their delivery area. They have an option for an all-organic box, but not everything is from local farms (though I think they try to get as much local stuff as they can). |
It sounds as though you're looking for a CSA (community-sponsored agriculture) place?
You can do a search at http://www.localharvest.org/csa |
Can anyone recommend a CSA that you've used and been happy with that delivers in DC? |
we are getting a CSA share from avianmead organics in brookeville this year...very excited! they are full for this year but i will report back on how we liked it. |
we are getting a csa delivery to a local drop by http://www.greatcountryfarms.com - a bunch of our neighbors got together to form a group so the farm started delivery in our area. you might consider getting together with your neighbors if you can't find a place that already does a drop near you.... |
It's tough to join a CSA at this late date. I'm in Silver Spring too and none of the CSAs with nearby drops are taking new members, from what I've found. If you do find one, please share the name. FWIW, I used to use Washington's Green Grocer but wasn't always happy with the quality of the produce. Still, a lot of people seem happy with them so that might be an option. |
