I am almost 39 weeks .....for the first time this morning I went to use the restroom and noticed a light colored discharge that resembled what some books describe as "blood tinged mucus" or a " bloody show.." there was also a little something in the toilet (peas size clump).... anyone have a thought of what that is? Wondering if its PART of the mucus plug (only a tiny bit in toilet) or signs of labor starting soon??? or a false alarm??? Any mamas have a similar experience? Thanks and sorry to be so graphic but thats what this forum is for, right? I hope! |
It's probably the beginning of labor. You may to tell your health care provider about it, and see what s/he says. Chances are, you'll start contractions very soon.
I had that kind of minimal bloody show when small contractions started. It was a good 10 hours before active labor started. |
Yes, I was finding little tissue/mucus chunks in the toilet for the last 2 weeks before delivery. I was dilating and effacing a lot so I just think it was the tissue thinning and the mucus plug coming out (it regrows after like 24 hours).
Labor is coming but its not necessarily going to be today. GL! |
The good news is, it's probably your mucus plug. Your body is getting ready to birth your baby!
The bad news is, there's no timeline for this process. It might be tonight, it might be tomorrow, it might be next week. (As if it didn't have enough alien-like characteristics, your plug can regenerate.) Wear a pad, cross the last things off your pre-baby list (or make peace with leaving them undone) and enjoy this last little bit of waiting. Congrats! |
I lost my plug over the weekend (absolutely no question about that) - am still waiting for labor. Am 40 weeks, 4 cm and 80 % effaced. |
loss of MP doesn't mean labor. your body starts producing it again right away. it's a sign you're dilating but some women go for weeks being a few cms dilated anyway.
a lot of women state loosing MC several times during the last few weeks of pregnancy. |
i had the loss of mucous plug (thick, bloody discharge--yuck) at 38 weeks even and delivered at 39w5d.

sounds like the mucus plug can come out all at once or bit by bit..for me its just a little at a time on the toilet paper ... very, very occasional cramping down low that feels like menstrual cramps... for those that have experienced contractions, does it actually feel like your stomach is squeezing? If so, I haven't had that yet...nor any kind of significant pain..just pressure and squeezing down low....thanks mamas! |
Sounds like you're having contractions, but they're not serious enough to pay attention to. (Believe me, you'll know when it's time to pay attention.) Eat some dinner, take a shower and go to bed. You might be in for a long night, so get some rest while you can. Best to you and your baby! |
Thanks!!!!
We shall see what happens... |
I've been with the exact same pain for 2 weeks now. Due in 3 days. GL |
no indication of ruptured membranes, right? |
My mucus plug worked it's way out over three weeks and I was still induced. Sadly it really doesn't provide much of a timeline. |
nope and only 1 cm dilated, 30% eff. doc said we can still go for weeks... |
