Health and Medicine
|
My 11-month old daughter has literally had the most awful colds and coughs for the last 6 months. I love my pediatrician but they are never willing to think about a preventative approach. Every doctors appointment ends with the same advice..saline, steam and motrin. I am happy to do that and am glad that they do not prescribe heavy duty medicine, but I feel they should also be wondering what I am, which is...why is this kid always sick with a cold & cough. Some friends have recommended doing a consultation with either a perdiatirc alternative medicine specialist or immunologist? Can anyone recommend either?

I would try a pediatric alternative practitioner, either an MD with that bent, or a naturopath. We did this last fall with our pre-teen son, and he has been on various supplements since then - and has been illness-free.
Where are you located? |
| In Adams Morgan in Washington DC. Who did you see? |
We saw a general practitioner in Columbia, Maryland, Dr. Jennifer Rabenhorst (google her). It is a hike for you, but for what it's worth we really liked her. My child had an odd issue, one I'd rather not get into here (for anonymity reasons), but after she began treatment with herbs and supplements, his health was vastly different. From October to June he had one sick day, and that was minor (really more of a mental health day than a sick day). Astonishing. In the course of my research the following names also came up repeatedly: Dr. Razi (pediatrician in DC; I don't believe she is taking new patients but my sister loves her) Dr. Marie Steinmetz (Alexandria GP or internist; her partners have the same alternative approach) - I have no experience with her but have heard consistently good things about the practice http://www.caringdoc.com/ I hope this helps. |
