Reflux

Anonymous
My oldest had TERRIBLE reflux as a baby, even pst a year. We thought that was over but DC seems to be having some symptoms again- sensitivity to certain food in particular. I will be calling the doctor obviously but if you have a child in elementary school who is still having reflux, can you describe their symptoms and if medication helped? This child has always thrown up extremely easily and seems to be struggling at night and first thing in the morning but has a really hard time expressing what they are feeling. Would love it if there’s something I can do to help (besides not let them eat all their favorite foods, which is probably at least part of the answer…)

DS had bad reflux after a stomach virus and we got him a wedge pillow to sleep on. It keeps his head up at night and it helped a ton.

Thanks! Did you do any medication?

The pillow was the first step to see if that resolved it and it did. I think his case may be different though because it was triggered by a specific incident.

When your kid was a baby could you tell what foods triggered them? I know it sucks to cut out foods but so does having reflux forever!

Often once the reflux is well controlled, the kid heals and can start handling occasional exposure to the offending food.
