I didn’t effing realize I was paying for audible premium. I am going to cancel but I have 7 credits I have to use before cancelling. What audio books would You recommend? I usually do nonfiction but I’m good with expanding horizons. TIA. |
I’m loving HORSE by Geraldine Brooks. |
Nice problem to have! I honestly think I might be in the same boat; I should check on that.
What are you usually into? Off the top of my head, I have really liked Why Students Don’t Like School, Gulp, What Doesn’t Kill Us (about cold therapy, surprisingly interesting), The Color of Money, and lots of history stuff from the Great Courses. For fiction, I liked Anansi Boys (the narrator is a comedian), and A Gentleman in Moscow. My husband really liked Greenlights, and I plan on listening to it. |
Ha, another idiot here who didn't realize I was paying for it until I racked up 10 credits, ugh. And I'm not an audiobook person, so it's been tough for me to try and use them.
Born a Crime by Trevor Noah made a great audiobook. 11/22/63 by Stephen King is probably my favorite I've listened to. Halfway through 44 hours of Stephen King's The Stand, and surprisingly it's kept me well-engaged although the beginning character development was a bit of a slog. It's very well done. A lot of people recommend The Martian as a great audiobook experience, but there's a lot of fairly technical stuff that made it hard to listen at times. Still good though. Project Hail Mary is also on my list. Anything by Neil Gaiman is great. The BBC full-cast version of Neverwhere is incredible, and I also loved American Gods and Anansi Boys on audiobook. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed Where the Crawdad Sings. I think as a book it's probably mediocre-to-bad, but I loved hearing all the descriptions of the marsh scenery and wildlife. Others I've heard are great but haven't listened myself: Shantaram Circe The Dutch House narrated by Tom Hanks Dresden Files series World War Z |
Remarkably Bright Creatures
The Dutch House |
Ok I recommend these two books, by Finbar Hawkins (UK writer)
Witch (voiced by Gemma Whelan of Killing Eve - she is excellent reading it / doing the different voices) and Stone (voiced by Finlay Robertson, also excellent) they are officially YA but definitely cross-over, beautifully written and easy to listen to. |
I listen to a lot of celebrity memoirs on audio. Some favorites have been Dave Grohl, Trevor Noah (about his life in South Africa, not his time in Hollywood), Viola Davis, Brandi Carlisle, Michelle Obama and Chelsea Handler's newest one about her journey through therapy.
I have not listened to it, but everyone I know has listened to Project Hail Mary and loved it. I loved Bomb Shelter by Mary Laura Phillpott If you enjoy raunchy humor, I highly recommend We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby. Another one that made me laugh out loud was Here For It by R Eric Thomas General nonfiction: Empire of Pain Caste Just Mercy You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey Know My Name The Only Plane in the Sky |
Seconding Remarkably Bright Creatures
Ned & Opal's Revival. |
Daisy Jones and The Six - it's a full cast audio and the book is written in an interview style so the audiobook works really, really well. LOVED it!
Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now. https://www.amazon.com/Daisy-Jones-Taylor-Jenkins-Reid/dp/1524798622 |
City of Thieves by David Benioff narrated by Ron Perlman |
Ned and Opal is fantastic!!! |
oops. Meant - Nev & Opal |
Bossy Pants by Tina Fey and I'll second the recommendation for Born a Crime. |
Project Hail Mary, Andy Weir
Boyfriend Material, Alexis Hall Confessions of a fourth something f##k up, Alexandra Potter |
