ISO club, clinics, and coaches that focus on player development in the Northern VA area (Herndon/Reston/Chantilly). My U12B has been with the same club since U8. We’re not sure that this club will be the right fit for him next year so we want to be proactively looking into his options way before tryouts. He’s a passionate player that loves to play year round. We’re also looking for winter and summer league options as well as private coaching, so any and all recommendations for clubs, teams, clinics or coaches are much appreciated. Feel free to pm if you would rather not share publicly.
I have searched and read through other related posts, and am familiar with the existence of most clubs in this area, but I would also like to hear first hand experiences for this age group and insider tips as a new season kicks off. Thank you! |
Watch games and practices of club and team/tier your child would most likely fit into. Narrow your list to 2. Ask that coach if your son can come to some practices.
Probably also worth looking at the team below “best fit” since many parents overestimate their own child’s stock. |
I don't have firsthand experience but a couple people I know out that way seem to be happy with the training from https://www.hpeliteandbeyond.com. |
I think a lot of it will come down to how far you want to drive and how competitive your son wants his experience to be. U12 is tricky: it’s the last year before they start in the more competitive leagues (ECNL and MLS Next), and many of the clubs you’ll be looking at will have the most competitive kids feed into partnership clubs (e.g. McLean and Springfield formed Virginia Union, BRYC and Vienna formed BRAVE, PWSI and Herndon, I think, formed VDA). So you may want to consider that, both from the moving on to an elite league, and from who’s left behind perspective (not all the kids you play with at U12 are going to be together at U13). As far as summer programs: Super Y is popular, and there are camps run by Nike, UVA, and some of the European clubs (Ajax, Barca). |
Thanks all! Very helpful |
