Schoology

Is there a "parent version" of Schoology?

I logged in today by going into Parent Vue SIS, then the FCPS links, then Schoology and used my kids' Student ID and his login... but I don't want to screw up anything going in as him.

Or is that it? Just the student version?

Thanks!

AH! I got it -- I use the same login for Parent VUE as I do for Schoology and it seems to have worked! And yes, I probably should have figured this out before now... sigh. Catching up.

Yes, there is a parent version. This was the first Google result: https://www.fcps.edu/schoology/parents

NP. Yes, there's a parent version. The parent version doesn't seem to be very good though.

Correct. In the parent version, you can’t actually view their submitted work or anything. I always log in as the student to check everything.

I can't log on as my kid but if you log on in the parental version, you can switch over on the upper right hand side if you click on your name.

You log into the parent version of schoology by using the same email and password you use to get into sis.

That does not show you what your child sees. I can see the kids in my child's account but not mine, even when I click on his name.

Is there actually anything in there for parents?

Yes, there is a parent version. But in my experience, teachers rarely use Schoology or use it incorrectly so there's not much point in looking at it.

How can you use it incorrectly? You either post things or don’t. I think lower ES uses it less. 4th and up uses it more.

You post optional assignments without indicating that on the title. Then it becomes overdue, and you think your kid is slacking. This happened A LOT for MS math. There were other weird non-assignments too for other classes but I can’t think now how that worked.

We found SIS to be the place where the most info is, btw.

Schoology is clunkier than Blackboard.

YES -- or, as my DS (10th grade) tried to explain to me, that this one assignment I saw in his school email that he had missed was b/c you turned in X way but b/c the teacher needed to be able to show it in Y way, she had to post it was if it was an assignment through Schoology -- blah blah blah -- I really didn't understand, honestly, but considering the kid has all As at this point, I took his word for it that he had not actually missed turning in the assignment!!

This happens so much in high school. Assignments appear as not done in Schoology because they are submitted in a different way, but the teacher never marks it as submitted. So you have no idea if your kid did it. For an all-A kid it may not be a big deal, but for kids who need some monitoring it’s a problem, leading to arguments at home and regular emails to teachers to verify things are being done.
