DS's team qualified for a National tournament this summer in California. Support from our club has been nonexistent. Is it normal for them to pass on ALL the administrative duties to parents? |
What support and administrative duties are you referring to? |
If it is for ECNL-R, sorry that your kid's team was good enough to qualify to go. We got lucky and lost in the semifinal. The clubs probably have little say or info as to what is entailed for that tourney. Booking last minute flights to SoCal isn't cheap and neither will the food and lodging be. Not sure why "regional" teams need to go to a national tournament. The ECNL-R tournament runs alongside the ECNL one, so they won't get to play any top team. |
Registering for the tournament, collecting money/arranging training/finding field space/paying club coach, booking airfare/hotel/,car for coach. While we expected to be paying for all that, we were a bit surprised to find out we were responsible for all the legwork. But also new to this, so wasn't sure if that was how things usually worked. |
No, parents at our club don't do any of that. |
My son's team is headed to CA in July for a tourney and the club handled all of the tournament registration, including the getting the block of hotel rooms. It's a stay to play tourney so the hotel was a bit predetermined. Parents were only responsible for booking the actual room and their flights. Our club handles all schedule making and tournament registration and we're grateful for it. |
Clubs don't pay for anything. All costs are passed onto parents in one form or another. Some clubs/teams have one overall admin fee that covers travel other make parents pay as you go. Either way, you're paying for it all. Why would you think it is any different than this. If you're savvy the parents can try to find a sponsor (get logos on uni's) to help cover some of the costs. |
Thanks, as stated above we didn't expect them to pay for any of it. That was not the issue. But we were surprised they left all of the administrative tasks to us. |
OP - Not surprised, whenever Summer tournaments come up some clubs forget how to coordinate. Who was coordinating the administrative stuff during the season? Also, what club are you talking about? |
Ha, I remember that one. Youth soccer gets so ridiculous. Why would second tier teams travel 3000 miles to play other second tier teams? This isn't the pros where the player is getting paid to do it. This is amateur US club soccer where the parents are paying. I can rationalize the top ECNL teams going to see who's the best in the USA. I don't get the ECNL-R teams making that trek for anything other than the money someone else will be pocketing. |
Clubs don't deal with tournaments, specially in the summer months. Those administrative tasks are usually done by the Team Manager, who is a parent anyway. Don't you have a team manager? |
