just heard that BRYC girls are no more in ECNL...and VYS is taking over???? Can anyone confirm this? or have any more info about it? What is next for the boys? Is BRYC folding? As a parent with younger kids, I like the neighborhood option of BRYC. |
If your source says VYS is going to be in ECNL, I'd take whatever they say with a grain of salt. |
I haven't heard of BRYC being kicked out of ENCL, and in any event, I doubt that they would be folding.
They have recently reorganized their travel program and no longer allow new "bridge" (parent coached, less expensive) teams to be formed. Starting with the 2012s, all the kids that want to play BRYC travel must do so through the Elite program. BRYC has allowed the older age groups to retain their bridge teams, which still affects the success of the Elite teams, which are the teams in ENCL. As the parent of younger players, I wouldn't worry too much about what is going on at the older age groups. A lot will change by time you get there and if not, when your kids are older, you can have them try out at different clubs. |
This is not exactly true. Bryc will “merge” with VYS and FCV to offer a pathway to ecnl for these player pools. VYS will manage the ecnlr level teams. FCV players will merge into these player pools and exit Ga and Villa partnership and focus on the South teams due to access to field space in that geography and probably proximity to TSJ. |
Wow. That’s a big shakeup if true. Anyone have a link or more facts? Would it be like the Virginia Union/Mclean/SYC structure, where except for the merged ECNL teams the full range of non-ECNL teams still play and exist for their home clubs? We’ve seen this kind of movie before (Loudoun and FCV back in the first year of GDA comes to mind) when it didn’t work out so well. But here, it seems like BRYC is bringing the ECNL membership and FCV is bringing the recent college placement reputation, and VYS offers a geographic location between the two? So it might work out.

Well this would make things interesting. Any link or information for this change or is this just a rumor?
Tough luck for BRYC kids if FCV brings over their GA teams |
If the rumor was jus that BRYC and VYS were merging/partnering, that would be believable. To add FCV to the mix, makes it not so much so. Non-profits and profits don't really merge easily. FCV did have an agreement with Loudoun to send their girls to FCV and boys to Loudoun, but we saw how long/well that agreement lasted. |
One person posting on an online forum does not make it a rumor. That’s just wild speculation I heard a rumor that a giant meteor will crash into the earth tomorrow. |
It just feels like every year STJFCV is looking someone new to merge with. It always seems that it's for the benefit of the girls program which rightfully so is very well recognized. Do they still have a boys program? Does it seem that there is a goal to grow it or has it been given up on? All I ever hear about is the girls side and DA so not even sure what league their boys teams play in. |
I have no idea about FCV. But just for the sake of argument why does a club have to have boys and girls programs? Why not focus on just boys or just girls and get good at that? Niche businesses can be very successful and sometimes trying to be good at everything makes you good at nothing. |
Nothing wrong with it and I agree with you. Although they have had a boys program and seem to just make moves for the girls side. They could just let go of one to focus on the other but they seem to carry both without doing much for the other. Any FCV parent on the boys side here that could say what their strategy/focus is for that side of the program? |
I will believe it when I see it. |
BRYC is merging with Vienna. It's a done deal folks. You'll hear more from the clubs shortly. I have no idea about FCV or any other club. I just know what I hear as a parent on the boys side of BRYC. |
What is your reaction to the merger? Do you feel this is a good thing for BRYC and your boys team? Will you be looking for a new club for next season? |
Top players will like the merger because it will ultimately improve the team. Take the best from BRYC and take the best from Vienna will result in a better team. The subs won't be happy and some will leave or will just not make the team next year. I don't see how this hurts either club if your goal is to try and build a club that is at the top if its league. |
