champagne to celebrate?

so i'm delivering at shady grove - does anyone know if people have sipped on some champagne after the birth to celebrate with family? obviously i'm not talking a lot...but a little treat to celebrate! i'm assuming you'd have to sneak that in! thoughts?

Why would you have to sneak it in? It's not like they're searching your bags. It's a hospital, not rehab.

Bring a bottle, put it in the snackroom fridge and enjoy!

OP here - good point...and it's not like they are going to kick me out!

You would certainly deserve it after all that hard work! My only concern is for breastfeeding - don't down the whole bottle
Hmm, a little pink champagne, all nice and chilled! But I think my MD husband would freak out and refuse - I'll ask him when he gets back...

At Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, CT, you get an amazing catered lobster and champagne dinner if you want! So yes, enjoy your champagne at Sibley!

ps: If your husband freaks out and refuses like 22:30, kick him out of the room since he doesn't deserve to be there. And don't worry about BF either.

A friend of mine had champagne (Sibley) a day after her delivery. Her husband brought it in the hospital and we all had a little, don't even know if anyone at the hospital knew it was there. I should mention my friend had maybe 1/2 a glass at best.

We were planning to bring wine to the hospital to celebrate. Sadly, I needed a c section so that plan fell through (pain meds + alcohol, not good). I think champagne is a great idea, just not much if you are breastfeeding.

Thank God someone posted this. I've been wondering if I was an alcoholic because I'd like a little toast after the big event!

Just be sure it doesn't interfere with whatever drugs you might be on.

I had a c cection and was on morphene. I was looped, and afraid that if I fell asleep (despite being riotously sleep deprived -- if you're not there yet, you probably will be) I would die. Heh.

Not sure a sip of alcohol would have helped that situation.

What I really wanted was a very, very tall glass of ice water. And a sponge bath.

We saved the champagne for when we got home, but I definitely could've used a sip the first day! That said, we had a relatively easy and quick delivery for the first with minimal tearing. Once the epidural wore off, I was only on motrin. If you're on any heavier drugs or in worse shape, I'd hold off until you get home.

They don't check your bags when you go in and the nurses give you TONS of privacy; but use discretion!
