31 weeks and I feel like I am gaining fast and furious....

I have been pretty good with the food, no hard-core exercise, but I walk A LOT and do yoga.....BUT!

I am gaining fast!

WTF? I know it is not out of my hands totally, but it sure feels that way....

My dr has said nothing of concern, but should I be worried?

I wouldn't be too concerned if your OB hasn't said anything to you. I'm currently 36 weeks and my visit on Friday was NOT a good one. Gained 5 lbs in 2 weeks. GULP! OB said, hmmmm 5lbs in 2 weeks what's going on? He then asked if I was having a lot of fluid retention - which I am thankfully (an awful thing to be thankful for but the alternative is worse IMO). But at the end of the day, just remember if you gain a few pounds too many as long as you have a healthy baby that's all that matters. The weight will come off and it's really only a temporary problem.

Hang in there, only 2 more months to go!!!

I gained 3 lbs a week - every week - near the end of my pregnancy. (total gain: 54 lbs on my 140-lb frame.) I exercised daily and I tracked my calories and knew that I shouldn't be gaining more than 1-1.5 lbs a week. I suspected most of it was water. Given that I lost 34 lbs within 3 days of the birth and my cankles disappeared within 3 days, I'm pretty sure I was correct. If your legs and feet are enormous compared to what they were, and if you can press on your skin and the discoloration stays for a bit, that's water retention. If your doctor doesn't appear concerned, it's probably not a problem. Good luck!

OP here!

Thanks guys...trying not to worry it too much, besides moving my butt and watching the food, what can I do, right?

I gained 57 (starting also 140). I tracked my calories too (though I sometimes tracked them to 3000!)...yikes. But I was super swollen and a lot of my weight gain was unavoidable. I lost 28 pounds the first week. Of course, after another 7 the few weeks following, I've been stuck. I guess the last of it really is fat gain.

14:29 PP - 10:17 PP here. I figured that 10 pounds of my 54 was baby and placenta, 24 pounds was various fluids (blood, water, amniotic fluid) and 20 pounds was milkshake and ice cream weight. So I had 20 pounds to lose. I'm still stuck at about 5 lbs above my pre-baby weight and I'm 17 months post-partum. My clothes fit, so I try not to think about the number on the scale. It can be really hard to lose weight when you just have a small amount of weight to lose, you're not overweight and don't have a ton of free time to do it. Remember when we were childless? We had plenty of time to exercise and 100% control over the food we ate. Now we're lucky to have the energy to cook a microwave meal. I manage to fit in daily exercise but I definitely sacrifice for that. (not time with my daughter, but other things.) I could probably go on a very strict diet and get rid of the weight but I just don't really feel like doing that - I feel like I make enough sacrifices as a mom that I shouldn't also have to give up sweets or cheese or wine.

If you're BFing, you're likely to hold onto some weight till you're done, in part because you really don't want to restrict too much when you're BF'ing. (and some women find that strenuous exercise is uncomfortable with big swollen boobs.) Just keep active and don't go crazy with food and you will eventually get most of the weight off.
