Bead up nose?

Anonymous
Our preschooler stuck a bead up their nose to see if it would fit. We have an ENT appt Friday. What can I expect? Is it possible it dislodges in its own? (I’ve been on Google. I’m hoping for actual accounts of how this will go down.)

Have you tried putting your mouth over your preschoolers to form a seal, and then doing a quick hard blow?

That worked for us when this happened, but it was food so maybe easier to dislodge.

Yes. I was so hopeful. But nope

They will restrain your child. Hands and legs. Will stick a metal prong up your kids nose. Be prepared for drama and have a game plan for a quick treat afterwards. Whole process quick but lead up was very scary for kid.

Cover your preschooler mouth with your mouth. Close the side of nostril that does not have the bead. Then blow a lungful of air in her mouth forcefully...repeat it a few times...give a gap of an hour or so and repeat again.

We took out a bead that was so up the nostril of my kid that we did not even know it was there. It was white colored so it looked like a cartilage to my ped. My pedestrian looked at it and thought that it was just mucous. She made me try the breath blowing at the ped office and it did not work.

Anyways, back at home, I was telling my DH and my older kid what happened at the ped and I enacted the breath blowing and the bead came flying out and smacked my cheek.

If you have a nose Frida from when they were little, you might try that. Otherwise I wouldn't shoot into Friday and just go to urgent care.

Did you tell the nurse it's sn emergency??? I might just go to ER to get it out. This is a long time to have a bead up the nose. wow.

My daughter did it twice. I got it out once with a nose frida and the second time at the pediatrician. Not sure you need an ENT unless the bead is completely not visible.

This is somewhat funny - a modified vacuum to get a Lego out. I'd try on yourself first to make sure it's OK..

Our pedi said go to ER or ENT. We’re sort of rural, so in our case the ENT is the better bet.

My child was 3 at the time. Our pediatrician advised against going to ER. This was in NYC, she said we'd be there for hours since not a true med. emergency. She called a pediatric ENT office and they had us come in the same day. Said it ideally shouldn't be left in overnight as it may roll deeper into nose/throat at night while sleeping and that's not safe, possible choking hazard. ENT took it out in less than a minute. We were in and out in 5.

You could try closing the other nostril and asking the child to try to blow it out?
