Simple, Loudoun is a powerhouse now they have players from 2 other clubs to help them be even stronger. Plus starting a new club it’s easier to trim the fat and add more muscle to the line up

My 2 cents

The other clubs would need to have the talent to displace existing for that to happen. And Loudoun already has a huge pipeline so I don't see this helping in any way....

Quantity over quality. Their pipeline might be large, but they certainly are not turning out very strong players in the older ECNL brackets. This move was in the advantage of GFRSC and Valor over LS.

This is due to the fact that the good, younger players left Loudoun prior to aging up/out of Loudoun at graduation. It happened in the past (and to a lessor extent still now) for a variety of reasons, such as no path (didn't get ECNL until recently, but has been fixed), poor coaching on girls side (still an issue), terrible administration (still an issue) lack of higher end college connections (still an issue), etc. They didn't merge with GFRSC and Valor to get/keep older players.....

I know Herndon was offering some RL players the opportunity to PT play/practice with VDA, which GFR and Valor couldn’t match. Loudoun pulls players from Western Fairfax, so they probably want to limit Herndon and VDA as much as possible. I don’t think there is a lot of love between those two (Loudoun and VDA).

Ultimately, though, all of these partnerships are about protecting the salaries of a handful of directors and do zero to improve player development.

ECNL would be better with a pro/rel system than this mega merger BS. The 07 boys GFR team could play in ECNL today if there was promotion. How many lifelong Loudoun players will get cut to make room on a combined team ?

Precisely. So would the 08 and 06 GFR girls. Why is that? Because they focus heavily on player development. Review game tape. Go over tactical skills. Condition off season year round. Have technical trainers at their games along with their coaches.

Jury is still out on Valor, we don't hear much about them. If GotSoccer is correct, they don't have very strong teams according to their record (at least on the girls side). Boys look to have slightly better win records.

Do you have specific instructions on how to sign up for tournaments on soccer.com?

Why do you ask? Well I'll let everyone else respond to that on specific coaches. It's not too hard to list all the coaches by their initials with a little bit of research.

I'll say this. When you're a coach who inherits a team of the clubs best players, it's sometimes hard to see the gaps in coaching ability or the coach's knowledge. They are working with players who are already very talented in their own right and mostly deserve to be there, except for the u13 teams where they grandfather and players who may not really deserve a spot. But they eliminate them by u14 typically.

I won't name names but if you take some of the more successful coaches on this list by measurement of trophies they have won, and you put them with developing players, most of them would struggle. On this list you're going to run into coaches who do not know how to develop players, only know how to crack the whip on them and motivate them to play harder and be more competitive players, but not actually develop them more. That is why they don't work with younger age groups and they don't work with developmental players, only players who have already made it to a very high level. This masks their lack of coaching ability.

This. So true.
The training itself is not too tedious but takes time. The website to sign up is very antiquated and difficult to navigate! We have to reach out to the coordinator to get the login credentials since it kept kicking us out and not saving my player's information. Good luck its worth it.

Hello -

Since the youthsoccerrankings.us website was shut down at the end of March, I have been working long hours to create a new and improved system that runs as an app on your phone or tablet. Please check it out by searching for "Soccer Rankings" on either the Apple App Store or (in a few days) the Google Play Store.

In this first release you can view rankings for all teams from U10 to U19, view results, see game result predictions and correct errors in the team entry or playing record. I hope you will help me to get the data as accurate as possible. Some improvements you will see over the old system.

* More results.
* State rankings based on geographical state (e.g. CA, NY, OH, PA, TX)
* Better automation of merging results from different websites.
* Instant update to the rankings if you make corrections.
* Score prediction and win probability for any pair of teams.
* More predictive ranking algorithm.
* Secure tracking of who makes changes so we can block user's editing rights if they make careless or deliberate errors.

The next release will include bug fixes plus club rankings.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would spread the word about the new app in your soccer community. Hopefully we can get this into the hands of competition organizers and improve the experience of traveling teams across the country.

Please let me know if you see any issues or have any ideas for improvements.

Kind regards,

Mark

Brilliant! Thank you for posting this

GFRSC has a very strong futsal program that they open to outside players: https://www.gfrsoccerclub.org/Default.aspx?tabid=1340008

Here is what the original post contained.

Day 1

Dear Diary,
Jimmy returns for another season of club soccer and we just can’t wait! His u15 team did great last season. We won the second lowest division of Mid Atlantic Cup, the team will be competing in EDP and I really think Jimmy has an opportunity to play at U of Maryland one day. We’ll do anything to help get him there. He’s been training 18 times a day but it’s all he wants to do, we dont push him extra hard we just try to stay out of the way and let the chips fall where they may. I’ll write another update after a few sessions and their first scrimmage.

Day 7

Dear Diary,
It’s been one week and Jimmy is probably going to play in the World Cup one day. He’s a sophomore in HS and doesn’t start for his public HS JV team, but the kids on his club team are just so good that I know he’s going to be such a big time soccer player one day. We have only had 2 practices in the past week and I’ve told his coach that I think we really need to pump those numbers up. Two-a-days three times a week on top of his HS practice and game schedule should be manageable. He’s only 15 anyway, right? This week we had our first club scrimmage, I was sitting over on the bleachers w the other parents but when I saw one of the other parents stand next to the bench, I thought to myself…why aren’t I standing next to the bench too?? Jimmy just really likes to have me around so I wanted to support him, he played half the game but I think coach will come around. I’ve really been talking to his coach about all of these great tournaments coming up, I expect we’ll have every weekend and holidays booked with tourneys!! Future Terp on the horizon baby!!

Day 14

Dear Diary,
I was speaking with one of the other parents at Jimmy’s JV game today. He said that he was talking to his son’s club soccer coach, he plays in pre-ECNL all the way out in Manassas which is a bit of a hike for us here in Frederick, but he was saying that he knows one of the U of MD’s assistant coaches!!! We told our coach today that Jimmy plans on switching clubs ASAP. We are fine with laying the rest of the club dues and making the extra drive, I’m sure MSYSA might have a small problem w him switching teams but as long as we pay both clubs, what’s the problem?! I also made sure to sign Jimmy up for 26 different D1 ID Camps in case Sasho doesn’t rate him. Nothing too serious, just UCLA, Indiana, UVA, Stanford, schools like that. We’re going to have a great summer next year!

Day 21

Dear Diary,

Jimmy has started half of his games for his JV team and the new ECNL club is working out great. They originally told us before we signed up that Jimmy will be playing ECNL, when come to find out he’s actually playing for the club’s red team just under ECNL, but he’ll get there one day I just know it. His old coach was really patient with him and played him in his favorite position, lol what a pansy ass. This new coach loses his temper with him every practice and I’m just here for all of it, he’s gonna whip Jimmy right into shape who cares if he’s never played left back before. We went to a MD game together last night and I waited 4 hours afterward for Coach Sasho so we could say hello. He said he’s never heard of the 2008 Manassa Red Pre-Pre-ECNL team before but that’s ok, we’ll be on the map before you know it.

Day 60

Dear Diary,
High school season just ended. Unfortunately Jimmy didn’t get called up to varsity, I asked the coach about it a few hundred times and he just said that Jimmy is “slow and uncoordinated”. So we hired him a physical and personal trainer to make sure he’s getting some extra training in on his own, it’s what he wants. His current club team only practices three times a week during the fall and we only play in tournaments, I keep telling him that the other parents and I would be more than willing to spend the extra money so they play 5 matches every weekend but he just kind of rolls his eyes and walks away. That’s ok. Jimmy has been having injury issues lately and I’m not really sure why, but I’m sure the new trainers will help him get stronger.

Day 90

Dear Diary,

It’s almost winter time. I’ve looked into every possible option for Jimmy to play futsal since his club team only trains twice a week in the winter. I also paid Soccerwire for him to be a featured player, and created this awesome Instagram and TikTok profile so all of the assistant college coaches can monitor his progress. We put together a new highlight tape which was only really 30 seconds long, but I think if one or two big time D1 college coaches see it then maybe they’ll mention something to Sasho. Big season coming up in the Spring. The new trainees have been great. Jimmy asked me if he could die his hair bright purple and has been getting in trouble at school lately, I think it’s because he’s just so excited to be a professional soccer player. Hopefully Maryland can give him a full ride, so we can afford to keep paying for his nutritionist and extra training year round. Big things coming up baby!

Hilarious~
SoccerCzar wrote:SFL is a rec league and does not allow travel players, so that option doesn't exist. For the other leagues....you are only allowed one player card per soccer organization. The two soccer organizations are US Club soccer (ECNL, ECNL-R) and US Soccer (EDP, NCSL, CCL). You are allowed to be carded on one team in each organization. For example, you can be carded with VDA's ECNL and Manassas United EDP team. However, at least last year, ECNL had a rule that only two players can be carded on another team REGARDLESS of the organization of that additional team. So for example, You can be carded with VDA and Manassas as long as you are one of the two kids on VDA doing this (kids on an ECNL team and carded on another are considered "discovery players" and you can only have two discovery players). Also, some teams play in two leagues and that's allowed no issues. For example, if your team plays NCSL and EDP (both US Soccer), that's not an issue. You are technically only rostered on one team. MLS Next has rules that I don't know.

Pros: You get more games. Possibly more competitive games.
Cons: You have more games to go to and the player has more on his plate. Also, you won't be able to make all the practices for both and, if the kid plays in games for both, that can cause so frustration with the full time players and their parents on each team.

But it seems like every situation is different and people find loopholes or just plain cheat. Especially EDP. EDP is like the wild, wild west when it comes to rosters and, personally, I'm ok with it because, at certain levels and ages and especially for players who want to play after High School, you shouldn't care who the hell you are playing against. As a 10th grader, you shouldn't care who your opponent is.

Hope this helps a little and at least gets a conversation started for you. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply! (I should have said NCSL instead of SFL, but just wanted to provide examples).

We checked the practice schedule and luckily only one day on both teams overlap. So technically we could rotate each week (her primary team has players who don't show up due to high school sports so less worries about that).

So is ECNL's two cards per organization for the ENTIRE club? Or per team? Do you know if it also applies to ECNL RL? I don't know much about EDP but our current club doesn't have teams that play for them. That's one reason why we are exploring options for both recruiting and playing opportunities. No HS soccer for us and current club takes Spring off after early tourneys so we need to find someone who actually plays regularly during the Spring months.
Is anyone's child dual rostered for two different soccer leagues (ir ECNL and NCLS, or EDP and SFL)? We know players who play on two different teams, but personally have never done it before. However with DS wanting to play in college his main soccer team isn't necessarily college focused (10th grade) and a lot of the players on his team don't want to continue beyond high school, so showcases aren't a big priority. But he has an opportunity to guest play with another local team that is in a completely different league that IS college focused, and there's no conflict. Does anyone else do this? If so, what happens to the player card? Any other pros/cons of playing for two teams in separate leagues? TIA.

Agreed- it does. We left this year for of many reasons but watching this scenario happen to kids year after year is not fun. There are better cultures out there!

For sure. We know players who have sadly had similar circumstances. Not cool to jerk kids around. I hope the OP speaks directly to their club to figure out what's going on! Makes zero sense to have players miss out on game opportunities for circumstances beyond their control.

Oh that's good to know, thanks! My son played in that tournament and we had some great competition this past weekend. We didn't advance, unfortunately.
Does anyone have experience on the boys side with either of these clubs? Looking for solid coaching, technical development, and good atmosphere for U13 age group. If you are part of either of these clubs please tell me your experience (pros/cons, etc). Our current coach just isn't cutting it for our son and he will be with the boys for a few more years.
