Oh, another user paying homage to Ted Lasso. Cool.
I recommend looking on the NCSL clubs and/or tryout page for clubs in your area and reaching out to the coaches of teams to see if they have openings. Perhaps target the teams in the top 1-2 NCSL divisions for your child's age groups.

You also might want to consider reaching out to existing BRYC bridge (or Braddock FC/whatever they will rebrand into) coaches--it's not as intense commitment-wise; they also play NCSL. I imagine those teams and other non-ECNL teams have pretty similar commitment levels.
Not sure what changes BRYC boys coaching staff may see, but on the Fairfax BRAVE side of things, they have posted a boys staffing update at https://www.fairfaxbrave.org/boys-ecnl/boys-coaching-staff.

It has representation from by BRYC and VYS along with a GMU assistant coach to help make selections: The FX BRAVE SC ECNL Staff coaches who will be leading the 2010, 2009 and 2008 ID sessions as well as evaluating the players for roster selection will be Gene Mishalow, Oliver Weiss, and Kevin James*.

FX BRAVE has additional coaches confirmed that we are not able to announce by name because they need to honor their commitments to existing clubs. Once those commitments are completed, we will be announcing the full slate.

*Not the comedian.
Why does MLS Next think they can impose silly rules on players -- it's a school activity. Who does MLS Next think they are?

Not from my perspective, except boys' coaching slate should come out this weekend. I think it was a good move to have one, and it sounds like there will be another one this spring as more details and information have come to light. There simply is a lot of questions and details still to be finalized (e.g. fee structure, uniform costs [reviewing bids currently]) and typical things out of their control, just like with many others, (e.g. which fields they will get permits for for use etc.), but at least stating that is better than no communication at all.

Adding a third club is good in theory for VDA, but I don't see many Herndon families commuting an hour or two with traffic 4 days a week to haymarket or woodbridge. VDA tried something similar with Vienna a few years ago and that didn't last long because of the distance and that was when they were special and had the full DA. There are several other ECNL/MLSnext clubs that are closer for Herndon families. Plus, didn't Herndon lose a lot of their top kids and coaches due to the total futbol split?

yep. empty press release that will result in little or no player movement. notice they didn't even bother to change the vda logo to include herndon alongside vsa and pwsi.

Herndon announced a partnership with Arlington about 10 months ago - end of April 2021. Is that still in effect? What is the over/under on a Herndon partnership with Loudoun or BRAVE in the next 9 months? Or do those clubs practice too close to Herndon?

Well, five years after VYS joined VDA they're now in BRAVE so I'll go with the over: http://vys.org/_files/VYS%20VDA%20Press%20Release.pdf

New names on the slate, how has the partnership been received with VYS parents

Also curious to see as most of the commentary seems to be from bryc families. Found the coaching slate on their Facebook page and was curious to what club they were part of prior to BRAVE. I may be wrong but thought MV was at VYS. Others not familiar with.

Looks like MV and LO are from VYS and of course TM and GM are from BRYC.
mazda1120 wrote:Does anyone know how easy or hard it is for a club to get into ecnl or mls? Is it that easy that NVUFC would be able to get a spot in either league next year?

Are you trolling or really don't know? NVUFC has no chance at either.: it's not easy and for NVUFC ECNL would be a pipedream--they don't have the player pool or infrastructure to be in ECNL. Will all due respect, this sounds like a troll post because your prior ones seem to come off as having some knowledge about what's going on internally.

Not sure if this was a dig at me or not, but OP didn't state why they were looking elsewhere. Plenty of reasons to know what your options are, even if you're happy where you're at.

Sorry about that, no dig intended, and I understand and can respect knowing what the options are. My choice of words earlier was poor--what I meant to say was why folks feel the need to move on so quickly. Knowing what options are for down the the line and when you are "stuck" for a year makes sense to me. But moving so quickly when a child is obviously happy where they are and making positive developmental progress at such young ages is what boggles my mind. But to each their own.
It boggles my mind that if a parent's child is happy where they are at when this young that they feel the need to shop around.
TheSoccerMom wrote:My DS (13) has become incredibly uninterested in soccer over the late fall/winter. Instead he wants to pour more time and energy into a different sport. He plays on a travel soccer team that has 17 boys. I am wavering back and and forth on making him stay vs pulling him. I get that I’d likely lose my money, but I care most about breaking the commitment we made when he made this team last spring.

What advice would you all give me? How often do clubs see this, and do they have a chance to fill the open seat?

Thanks.

With 17 other players the team won't have a problem sustaining losing someone, and if they really want to fill that slot that probably could find someone but it won't be necessary. The upshot is it's more potential PT for the 17 kids remaining and for the coach(es) it's one less person to worry about regarding PT. If your DS is one of the better players, of course that will be a hit for the team, but that's life. You can tell the coaching staff that you know they want committed players, and they will likely understand that. And even if they don't, it's your family's decision, not theirs.

OP, has your son asked to stop playing?

I'm not sure how this will change the boys side. The BRYC boys teams are better than the VYS boys teams. This partnership was done for the bryc girls teams. Although unless more talent goes to this partnership, the ECNL teams will continue to struggle.

I believe mazda1120 is referring to the wrench NVUFC and co may throw into things since Welsh fam is double dipping.
I thought the BRYC rec program (.org) was the nonprofit but the BRYC academy (.com) wasn't necessarily a nonprofit. Academy is "BRYC" in name only; the rec program is part of BRYC nonprofit proper, correct? The ECNL and NCSL access the "BRYC" name has is through the .com. Why would there be any board approval necessary for the for-profit side to run their business?

IMO, this move is also looking ahead because while, performance-wise, BRYC may be on notice by ECNL (no idea if that's true or not), there aren't enough players in the 2011 pool to field a team in BRYC partly because there are three bridge teams cannibalizing the 2011 players. This move ensures they will have enough to roster a 2011 team in ECNL when they become age-eligible because they can fill-out the roster with VYS players as well as of course any players from other clubs that wish to try out.

Regarding your obsession with the boys, if BRYC coaches are going to head up the ECNL team they don't have to pick any VYS players if they don't think they're good enough. Just as they don't have to pick any of the BRYC pool players either. There are no player quotas required from BRYC or VYS for the BRAVE rosters.

Also, for the boys, the TD was just hired as an assistant by GMU. Maybe he is going to be moving on anyway.
Partnership club will be called something like BRAVE and play in ECNL come fall.
BRYC second teams effectively will join ECNL-RL.
Both clubs will operate on their own at U10 and below sounds like.

Discuss.
It’s happening. I’ve heard this from coaches. Some kind of announcement could come as early as tomorrow.

Will bridge teams end up as collateral damage or not? I have no idea but could get interesting.

And how does the return of LB in the fall fit into this?
