average step count for your 2nd grader?

Anonymous
My kids have Fitbits. What is the average step count for your 7ish year old? I'm just seeing what 'normal' is. I'd say on a day where he goes to school and then doesn't play sports afterwards, he gets btwn 10 and 13k. If he does play sports afterwards, it is about 20k.

Seriously?

12-20k depending on what kind of day. it's rare my young elementary kids don't get 10k. They'd have to be home sick and actually sick.

No clue. Don't want to endorse obsessive tracking.

OP here - neither do I! He announces his step count all the time, and has competitions with his brothers, and with friends at school, and I'm just interested in seeing what others get each day (for fun).

My 8yo has a got a Fitbit and we challenge each other sometimes. On a non active day I would say 7-8k for her. On a day she does soccer or lots of exercise 12k

Sorry didn't mean to be rude. My kid has been asking for a Fitbit to compare with friends, so it's a touchy subject.

My son used to get about 15,000 on regular school days. I only remember because I still struggle to get my 12,000. And I do intentional exercise, unlike him.

OP here - no problem. It is funny what kids get in to - one son of mine loves to compare and compete (not in a bad way - it is fun for him), and my other son forgets to wear his half the time.

I think it's horrible parenting to be focused on a Fitbit at this young age

You need to parent here.

This thread is insane.

I mandate a rolling 2-day average of 28k, or no snack the following day.

My son had a classmate who had one and he asked for one. He likes the alarms and stop watches. (shrugs) The only days that he really looks at the step count are the days that we are hiking or backpacking. He knows his max count and likes to top it.

OP: DS regualrly ends up with 15,000 steps with little effort. His Pack did the Presidential Fitness Badge for Cub Scouts. One of the activity options was step count. The step count was set at 12,000 steps a day, which I thought was ambitious. Turns out it was easy to get. DS had days were he didn't do anything extra and was over that amount. It was kind of funny.
