I'm nearing 40 and feeling out of touch with anything fashionable these days -- looking for some inspiration in updating my wardrobe this fall. I'm thinking if I can add 3-5 stylish, but not overly trendy items to my fall wardrobe, that would be a nice refresh. Budget is about $1500. What would you get? Help me out, please! Looking for things I can incorporate in multiple different outfits. |

Non-skinny jeans and nice mules. I love the kitten heel mules from Jenni Kayne. My go-to jeans are J Crew’a Demi-boot crop. |
Levi’s straight leg high waisted jeans and everlane clogs with knit sweaters and plain long sleeve v neck ts |
Anthropologie sweaters, j crew dresses, leggings, new boots, |
No clogs. Ever. Even if someone seems them “of the times”. They are hideous. |
No mules and no clogs. |
Oversize black blazer - try Theory |
Blazer - may be tweed or subtle plaid
A few Vince blouses Jeans - Veronica Beard, Frame, Mother (not skinny) A great pair of boots - I like Aquafina and Madewell Do you need a new coat? I like Vince coats (can find on sale run large) Cashmere oversized cardigan (Jenni Kayne) |
Mules and Clogs are in right now but don’t look great on most people |
I never understood the cult “like” of Anthropology. Trader Joe’s I get. Anthropology is way over priced. |
Anthro was good for about the first year of their run. Since then it’s been a downward spiral of quality without price relief. I’ve some sympathy for people who were slow to give up on them, but that’s a decade ago at least. Trader Joe’s is just an overcrowded 7-Eleven—cult in my book and the early adopters we’re the most batsh*t in that case. |
I have been wearing my danskos for decades and have no plans to stop. |
I like! |
I am a similar age and I struggle to find anything I love in stores today. It all looks ugly or overly precious to my eye. I tend to like tailored, somewhat conservative clothes, so ymmv.
