Shootings in DC tonight

Why dont these people stop the crime in their community. All the rap music and glorification of violence only leads to death. However they view police as "enemies".

These People??????????????????????

Sure, because it's really that simple.

"These people" will get right on that. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, OP, why don't you bring jobs into those neighborhoods? This way "These People" will be better able to afford a way out of that way of life.

I abhor the undertext of the OPost, but this is a straw man argument. I would venture to guess that less than 5% of the people clicking on this thread work "in their neighborhood." I don't think I've ever, in 45 years, gone to work in my neighborhood. Well except for my first babysitting jobs.

Jobs at all levels are not entirely lacking in the District of Columbia, where the shootings occurred.

Carry on.

It's fullmoon. Shit like this always happens when fullmoon and warmer temps collide. I don't understand why MPD hasn't picked up on that yet.

Actually business don't often go into the poor neighborhoods and the poor can't easily afford to leave their neighborhood. How do I know? I was in this position and had to walk a mile and a half to work each day. If I was lucky I was able to find rides when I worked until 11pm or so. If not, I just walked home, and hoped I made it there.

The OP can mentor someone in that neighborhood if she wants there to be change. I have done more than my fair share of mentoring and my in-laws opened a business in one of the poorest sections of Baltimore. When my in-laws retired they sold their business (which was successful) to someone from that neighborhood.

OP you sound old and crotchety. Were you born in the 1940's? "All the rap music and glorification of violence?" I was laughing until it occurred to me that you might actually feel this way.
Step outside your generalizations and negative stereotypes for a moment and consider that people are individuals. I know the concept might blow your mind, but it's true.
Once you get your mind around that concept the next step is to understand that people are complex.
And as long as you go around saying that listening to rap music leads to murder no one with half a brain living in 2010 will take you seriously.

I'm new to this site but I'm pretty sure whoever started this thread was just trying to get a rise out of people. I really hope that there isn't anyone out there who still thinks that rap music is responsible for violence.

Having grown up in some of the absolute worst parts of this city, I can say with 100% certainty that you have no clue what in the world you're talking about.

Go watch season 4 of The Wire or something. That's probably the most accurate depiction that I've seen on television.

Every time I read a stereotypical comment like this now, I assume it's a troll trying to start off a debate.
