j jill petites

So, maybe I've crossed some invisible border to the matronly side, but I ordered a couple of items from J Jill and really like them. I've never been in one of their stores and thought of them as like if Talbots and Eileen Fisher had a baby. However, I'm 5'2" and 110# and desperately wanted to get a denim jacket and had already tried petites in J Crew, GAP and Universal Standard, as well as standard sizing from Madewell and Levi's. Every jacket I tried -- even the petites -- was bulky and big and boxy -- ugh. But . . . the J Jill jacket is actually perfect -- scaled down in all details, including collar and cuffs, and neither too boxy nor too fitted, though it has enough fit to suggest a waistline, which works for my hourglass figure. The fabric is some witches brew of cotton, lycolcell, spandex and polyester, so not authentically denim, but it feels soft, and has a nice wash -- not too dark, nor too faux-distressed.

Emboldened by my success with the denim jacket, I ordered a dress -- also cute, though maybe a tad on the preppy side, but I think with the right shoes and jewelry I can style it to be kind of fun preppy, rather than stodgy. Here's the dress -- what do you think -- should I keep it?:

I have such a hard time finding natural fabric petite tops that I sometimes wear my 8yo’s shirts, so thank you for flagging this extra potential source of adult clothes!

I was recently there also, had the same assessment about talbots and Eileen Fisher and also decided that maybe it was just time to give in to the matronly I bought a few things and they are ok, although I saw a 75+ year old out wearing one of the printes shirts I had and had a second thought lol. But I decided to just go with it...

I love J.Jill. Similar to Eileen Fisher in vibe, but almost no scratchy wool and MUCH more reasonable prices. They constantly have good sales. I basically live in J.Jill and Talbots, depending on how flowy I feel like being.

I love J.Jill petites. I do find I need to size down there.

The style in denim jackets right now is VERY big and boxy and oversized, that is why you are having problems with that particular item at many popular retailers.

OP here -- I do understand that's the style, but it's not flattering to me.
