Askamanager?

I like reading 'Askamanager' blog, but over time I noticed that whenever the author posts updates from her letter-writers, they are always extremely positive.

Whenever someone asks about changing a toxic job, they soon write that they've quickly secured a position with much better pay, benefits, and a fantastic working environment. I've never seen an update that would say that someone still can't find a job after months of searching or their new position is even worse, which in reality happens pretty often. I don't think that any letters are fake, but it does make me wonder if she chooses not to post any negative feedback or stories of long-term unemployment.

The updates you’re talking about are usually presented as part of a “good news” segment. When she posts more general “where are they now” updates you occasionally see less happy stories.

I’m sure she doesn’t want to publish tons of negative stories because it’d imply her advice doesn’t help, but I also suspect people are less inclined to follow up if they don’t have good news to share.

I understand that but it makes the blog a little bit one-sided. Those 'good news' stories often talk about people finding great jobs within 2-3 weeks. I imagine that during the pandemic many candidates struggled and had been unemployed for over a year. Still, her content hasn't changed much except for mentioning virtual work more often.

I read religiously and I can think of updates that weren't positive. But I agree people are probably less likely to send an update if it's bad. I remember a lot that started with "I waited to write until I had something good to report."

It's her blog. She is providing advice for free. This is not an issue with "sides," this is someone offering an opinion that you don't have to take or even read.

In addition to what others have said about people likely only writing back if they have something good to say, it's fair for her to "self promote" by posting success stories.

I remember multiple "good news" updates when people had been unemployed for a long time before finally finding a job.
