Bed that can grow with my 4yo

Anonymous
We are doing up a bedroom for my 4yo girl including a big girl bed. I am hoping to invest in something that will last through her teen years. I have a few questions:

- Should I get full or queen size? The room is on the smaller side so would prefer a full so that the room doesn’t feel crowded once we add a vanity and reading nook. But does a teenager need a queen? I had a queen growing up, but a bigger room
- Looks like a recent trend is to get a bed frame + faux headboard. If you’ve done that, do you recommend it?
- What are some good stores for quality, long-lasting classic white wooden beds? Already looked at PB, WE, CB, RH, EA and looking for other options

Forgot to say the budget for the bed is $1-1.5k, maaaaaybe $2k if we really like something

A teen doesn't need a queen. I had a twin until i was 17 and then a full and then college with a twin.

We do twin beds as we have small bedrooms and kids still get twin beds in college dorms.

But I also do hand me down frames because I am not trying to please my future teen a decade in the future. Check nextdoor, facebook, etc and see what people are selling at half price or giving away.

Agree on twin. It gives them room to actual hang out and play in their bedroom. Even my teens have twins.

When they officially move out, I’ll add queen beds and make the rooms guest rooms or more versatile. Right now they have vanities, desks, bookshelves, sports items, lizard and fish aquariums, etc. When they were little they had toy boxes, doll houses, lego sets.

My son and daughter both have full mattresses with Romina bed frames. 10 and 6 and the bed frames (and mattresses) look as good as new.

+1

I think my twin in college was an XL, which is also an option. But a teenager does not need a queen bed.

My DD has slept in a full since she was 3 and I think it’s just right. I think a queen is a bit large when they are little and it’s really not necessary for a teen. I tend to think you only need a queen or larger if sharing the bed. And even then, my DH and I slept in a full when we first moved in together because our bedroom was small.

Kids also like having a bit more floor space. I think about making up dances with my friends or practicing backbends after gymnastics class. As privacy becomes more important, having space in your room for things other than sleeping or studying is nice.

I would only do a Queen if my kids room doubled as a guest room. My kid had been in a twin and she will stay in a twin until she’s old enough to have her own home with her own bed in it.

You are asking someone with a $2k budget to get a used bed from nextdoor 😀

Used bed frame - buy your own mattress.

Standard size college dorm bed is Twin XL.

I had a twin bed until I turned 25. Then I splurged on my birthday and bought a queen bed and a whole new bedroom.

a twin is plenty.

How much sex do you want your daughter having when she’s a teen?

Lots of enjoyable sex = queen
Lots of not-quite-as-enjoyable sex = double
Lots of furtive, uncomfortable sex = twin
