E-Z Pass for DC resident?

Anonymous
We are DC residents who want to get an E-Z pass before our summer road trip. Should we get a VA or MD one? Does it matter?

It doesn't matter which one you get. The terms may be slightly different, so check that.

We are also DC residents and have one from PA that we purchased during a road trip 10 years ago.

Delaware doesn't have an annual fee

I recently asked this same question and had some very helpful responses.

Get the Va one if you want to use the HOV feature on 95.

Why would that matter?

Why would that matter?

It’s free then. You need the FLEX ez pass device.

Because if you have 3 or more people you can ride for free. For that reason alone it makes sense to get the VA one.

This is what we did and why.

We only drive north so we got MD for the slight discount on MD tolls.

Depends on where you drive more. If you go to VA and often have 3+ people in your car, you can use their EZ pass to avoid a fee on the HOT lanes (495 between Tysons and 395). If you go to the beach a lot, a Maryland one has a discount for the Bay Bridge.

Can you have two EZ passes?

I'm the person a few posts up who posted a link to this same question I asked last week. Someone responded on that thread that they had a MD EZ Pass but were going to get a 2nd VA EZ Pass for driving down south.

Heh, I'm that poster. I just got my VA EZ Pass in the mail two days ago. So yes, you can have two EZ Passes!
