I’m due with my second in a few months, and don’t know if my older toddler will be ready to leave his crib. I don’t want to force him out, so am looking into bassinets that the baby could use for up to four or five months post birth. I don’t want to purchase or rent a snoo, what are the other good options out there? Looking for something breathable, comfortable mattress, and ideally portable for travel to grandparents. |
Bassinet mattresses are all pretty thin by design. Maybe look at mini cribs?
I had no problem fitting my daughter in the Clearvue arms reach for 5+ months and my son is now going strong in it at almost 5 mos but they’re both on the smaller side. I like that it’s on wheels and can be pulled closer to the bed, and the price is not outrageous. Not portable tho. Instead, Both sets of grandparents have a pack and play in an attempt to entice us to visit more! |
Maybe something like the Guava pack and play? |
We loved the Arm’s Reach. |
Ours had mesh sides, which I thought was great. I don’t think the thin mattress is an issue when they’re that little. |
PS our tall baby outgrew it at 3 months. But our IKEA crib was only $100 and converts to a toddler bed. I don’t think having two cribs for a bit would be so terrible. |
We just took the crib down about 4 months before #2 was expected. Fun sheets and new stuffed friend for his big boy bed. #1 adjusted. |
Loved our guava lotus bassinet. Now that my baby outgrew it, we conversed it to the travel crib and it’s great too! |
It’s not portable but we absolutely love the Halo Bassinest and have it next to my side of the bed. We just have the base model (no sounds or vibrations). There’s a upgrade mattress we bought with it. Obviously every baby is different but DS sleeps really well in it. https://www.target.com/p/halo-innovations-dreamweave-breathable-bassinest-pad/-/A-81885441 |
My kids hated the halo and slept in the uppababy bassinet that came with the stroller. |
FWIW, pediatrician recommended against a bassinet like the uppababy because the sides aren’t mesh/ breathable. |
We used bassinet attachment for Guava Lotus travel crib and it was great. Travel crib is also fantastic. I liked the mesh sides. |
I love the look of the bjorn bassinet. But no practical experience with it.
But we just had baby in the pack and play next to our bed. We have a good pack and play that is a little larger. It is easy to take traveling and folds nicely. We thought her sister would give up the crib (she is 3) and want a big girl bed, but she likes her crib, so we bought a second crib. In the long run, it converts to a toddler bed and then full size frame, so we could get 5+ years out of it. We have 7 years worth of use from the crib the 3 year old is in and will probably get another 3 years out of it - DD2 is very petite and will not hit the weight limit for the toddler bed / day bed any time soon. |
If you want portable, try a pack n play. Graco has a mini one and the 4 moms is not too big and very easy to fold from what I've read. |
Thanks all. OP here. We actually have Uppababy bassinet from our first (he hated it and I don’t love that the sides aren’t breathable) so was looking for something else. We also have the baby bjorn pack n play but if I re correctly, it was really difficult to reach down to get small infants out of there and was really only suitable for infrequent travel.
My son is turning 3. Ordered a bed ages ago but it seems to be on back order. Would love to avoid buying another crib if he’ll transition out within a few months of baby #2. Thanks for the helpful bassinet suggestions. |
