Peloton shoes or toe cages? Can you have both at the same time?

For those who have a Peloton, are toe cages and/or shoes necessary or recommended? My daughter's feet are still growing so I don't want to get her shoes, but I wonder if I can get shoes for myself and still have the toe cages on the bike. Or maybe toe cages are sufficient for me too? Or maybe we don't need either?

Shoes necessary - yes. You can switch out the pedals though and get cages. It’s not cheap though. Find a local cycling store and talk to someone there about your options. If you’re in Maryland, I couldn’t recommend Race Pace enough! They have several locations

Get the shoes. I have both shoes and cages. I still cannot get the toe cages onto the pedals (after having the bike for almost a year). They are really, really hard to get on and off. Google it for more info - I think this is a common problem.

You can get cheap cages off amazon, get teh shoes for yourself. It is really worthwhile.

I like the SPD clips way better than the delta clips the Peloton shoes come with. My feet feel securely attached to the pedal. I understand the logic behind the cages but I've used them in a pinch when staying somewhere on business and it's definitely not the same. I would get cheap shoes a couple of sizes big and stuff the toes which would be fine, you aren't walking in them.

To answer your question, yes you can have both. There are cages that have the same clips as the shoes so you should be able to take them off and on just as if they were shoes. But as another poster mentioned, some people have a hard time with actually getting the cages on and off. I have no personal experience with the cages, but I have seen people use them successfully. Many people also insist that the cages don't provide the same workout as they make you engage your muscles differently. But maybe its good enough?
