I have a child with high functioning autism and am trying to determine which Montgomery County elementary schools excel at including children with special needs. I have heard good things about Bethesda ES, and it seems that Burning Tree has a similarly high percentage of special ed children, several of whom have autism.
Does anyone have any insight here? We are considering where to move and are open to anything in reasonable commuting (driving) distance to DC. Thank you. |
Move to Ho Co. Their inclusion classes area virtually seamless b/c the co-teachers take on equal roles. |
Sligo Creek ES has a classroom for high-functioning autistic children. |
Sligo Creek's program takes kids from around the county. My son's in the regular program at the school, so I don't know too many details about it. But before you move for the sake of finding a school, you might want to look into that. |
Agree with this. I don't know much about MoCo, but HoCo has it down pat. |
Anyone with firsthand knowledge of the Sligo program? How about Burning Tree? Seeking good HFA program. Thanks. |
If they have a separate classroom for children w/ special needs, then its not inclusion. Inclusion is when children w/ special needs are a part of the regular classroom on a full time basis. They may have an assitant for part of the day. |
