Hi All,
With summer right around the corner I'd love to find a few books that my 12-year-old could really sink his teeth into. He's a great reader when he finds something he likes, but he's picky. He isn't into fantasy/Rick Riordan-type books, and those seem to make up a lot of what's recommended for boys this age. I'm happy for him to read grown-up books if they aren't too sexual or violent. Last summer I got him to read The Help and he absolutely loved it. He just finished The Great Brain series and loved it, and he loves all Gordon Korman books. Can anyone suggest other books that he might like? Grown-up or kid books, doesn't matter which, but he enjoys realistic fiction (or non-fiction-- he used to love the I Survived books). Thanks! |
| City Spies by James Ponti and his Framed series. His books have endearing kids solving mysteries and cliff hangers to keep you wanting more. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it. |

Here are some things my similar sounding 12 year old has liked:
A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park Projekt 1065 by Allen Gratz (he has a lot of historical fiction) A Night Divided by Jennifer Neilson The Parker Inheritance by Varian Johnson Spy School series |

If historical fiction is ok then anything by Avi (like true confessions of charlotte doyle) or johnny tremain or day of the blue dolphin Similar to day of the blue dolphin, when i was that age i read my side of the mountain |
| Explorer Academy series |
| My son had read and reread World War Z many times. |
