| When at the gym I love to use the lay pulldown machine. I’m trying to build a home gym in the basement but my ceilings can’t accommodate a lay pulldown machine. What’s a good replacement to really work my back? |
| Pullups are way better anyway. Just install a bar somewhere. |
I'm nowhere near strong enough for a pullup. I only lift 25lbs doing lat pulldowns. |
You can use resistance bands to assist until you develop enough strength to do them without. They’re thick rubber bands that come in different colors (different resistance levels) and you can progress at your own speed. Amazon sells them. |

Get some dumbbells and a bench. You should have free weights in a home gym anyway.

+1 You can also attach the bands to the bar or ceiling and pull them down like a lat pulldown. I have also seen a bent over variation where you attach bands to a post, hinge/bend at waist and pull in the same motion as a lat pull down. |

I don't have the room/can't afford a bench and free weights, so I bought this set off amazon and basically do the lat pulldown, among other exercises I wouldn't be able to do without machines.

| Dumbell rows or barbell rows |
| Just use free weights. |
| Tonal! |
| My Pt had me do lat pulldowns with a resistance band. Google for videos |
| TRX straps? |
| Resistance bands with a door anchor |
You can also start by just hanging and doing shrugs with your shoulder blades back. |
| Try this... get 3-5 lb dumbbells, lay on belly like Superman exercise, place dumbbells in front of you, arms stretched. Raise head, chin chest off floor, ‘Pull Down’ one dumbbell at a time. It’s essentially the same move just on the floor. You’ll feel the same muscles firing. |
