“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled," Justice Alito writes in an initial majority draft

It's their test run.

+1 in case people hadn’t seen this:

Once a Justice is confirmed, they're not bound by anything, really. Whatever they said in their confirmation hearings or other prior conversations doesn't prevent them from subsequently changing their mind. That's kind of the whole point of an independent judiciary. They aren't beholden to anyone.

This is how Collins can play to both sides of the aisle and peel off some Democrat votes.

They need to be accountable. This legislating through the courts is bs and anti democratic. The court must go.

It's ironic to hear a (presumably) liberal person say this. It's something conservatives have been complaining about for decades. Guess it's more fun to do unto others than to get done.

No dont you dare put this on the shoulders of one woman. F you. There are a 1000 misjudgments and miscalculations and lies between her and this decision.

RBG couldnt retire under Obama because there wasnt even a vote for Garland. Mitch was never gonna let her be replaced by a dem president. Couldnt retire under Trump who got 3 justices in who are all partisan hacks after influencing one justice to retire. Two of them shouldnt have been considered at all.

No. You will not put this at HER feet.

False. Obama asked her to retire in 2013, before GOP took control of the Senate in 2014 elections for Jan 2015.

OH i didnt realize it was political and a president should ask someone to step down. no see this is the bullshit, even with this reasoning you cant lay this at her feet and hers alone. its like saying a pregnancy is alone a womans issue. roe v wade does not lie at the feet of rbg alone. if anything it lays at the feet of white women who voted for trump. f&&& them not her.

The fault clearly falls on the justices who vote to overturn Roe. Not RGB or McConnell.

NP. No, adults can and should be able to take a breath and tell the truth here. Yes, the lying liars ACB and Kavanaugh and the touchingly fake Sen. Collins and McConnell AND RGB and her apparent belief in her own immortality after multiple bouts of cancer and reaching her 75th birthday ALL played roles in this.

I’m devastated by this. Roe has been the prime target for a growing faction of Republicans since 1973, and the Reaganite nightmare of destroying federal governance and degrading all of its branches has been known. The disciplined, steady push to install crackpot liars into state Secretary of State roles by the GOP has been public. The Fed Soc list and disciplined, steady push to get their justices in at the fed level has been public. There has never - EVER - been an appetite in the Democratic Party upper apparatus to push back in as disciplined a manner, to use ALL tools to fight the fack back, and I’m sick to facking death of the retreat into protecting sacred cows like Her Holiness RGB, the legacy of Obama, and now, as Elie Mystal has written in his column for The Nation, the failure of appetite in Biden to make stacking the Court or otherwise putting up a damned street fight regarding Thomas/his corrupt wife as sacrosanct “we don’t talk about that!’ things. I just feel disgusted overall and no attempt to lionize the dead changes that for me.

not protecting her- tired of women taking the blame for the actions or inactions of a majority of men.

DP. Whether you find it "tiresome" or not is neither here nor there. Women are responsible for their actions, to say otherwise is offensive. RBG is responsible for her actions which were driven by hubris. So are Democrats who think they are so above it all that they won't put up a damned fight. Why would I vote for them? They don't do anything about anything.

Because Democratic votes are diluted by the constant cheating of the GOP, for one thing.

Have Democrats tried drafting and passing such a law, which has broad support among US citizens? Relying on flawed past judicial rulings to maintain such an important right is fragile, as we've just observed.

Two REPUBLICANS tried and failed.

They should push for it again. Use all of their political will.

Did you read it? They proposed an amendment to a bill they then voted against allowing to proceed.

This had to have leaked from one of the conservative justice's offices.

VEEP is scheduled to speak today at pro abortion group. Not spontaneous. And there are two high profile primaries today. This hit was planned

The leak doesn’t benefit the liberal justices or Democrats in any way.
And if you’re the dumb “hoax” poster who started the different thread, Roberts confirmed that it’s authentic. https://www.thedailybeast.com/furious-chief-justice-john-roberts-confirms-leaked-draft-overturning-roe-v-wade-by-supreme-court-is-authentic

Sure it does! It distracts the nation from the horrid economic climate and bad numbers Psaki is warning people about.

Honestly, this ruling is just poor Public Policy on so so many levels:

1) What the USA needs is more educated young people working and paying into SS tax pool

Banning Abortion will ONLY Produce: more poor minority children on welfare- NOT what our Economy needs

Get Real- Banning Abortion will not stop wealthy, connected families and women from getting the medical procedure they want OR just the Plan B pills

It will only force Pregnancy on poor women with little resources, very little determination to overcome and the poorest of society- Is THAT who you WANT ? Will THAT help the Tax base. the SS fund base ?

Look at the number of AA children in Foster Care NOW- WHY aren't THEY ADOPTED ??? That isn't going to change

What they should also BAN is Lawyers making a profit off of Adoption fees because THAT is another BIG Lobby Group that wants to force women to have babies- so THEY can basically SELL THEM for outrageous Atty Fees
