browning patch on lawn

part of my lawn is looking brown and dry while the rest is looking green/healthy. we had same issue last year. thoughts on what the issue could be and how to fix? thanks

is it in your front yard? If so, it could be dog(s) peeing there.

This part of the yard is on the slope, so the dogs prefer to pee in the corner, which ironically is very green. I was thinking fungus, but perhaps too early for that?

Yes, most likely. They feast on grass roots (hence the dead grass).
