Please share your experience with pediatricians in Alexandria

I'm looking at pediatricians in the Alexandria area and plan to deliver at Inova Alexandria. Pediatric Associates has the least convenient location, but I believe they are the only practice that visits newborns in the hospital. I also feel like last minute appointments would be pretty easy here. Dr. Laura Robinette has wonderful reviews and is very convenient for us, but no hospital visitation and I don't know how practical last minute appointments would be. Kidz Docs is pretty convenient too, but also doesn't visit the hospital and wants us to come in within 24 hours of discharge from the hospital. That is really soon. Last minute appointments would also be pretty easy here.

I would love to hear from others who had babies in the area and are willing to share your experiences, good or bad, and what you found to be most important.

It literally does not matter if they see you at the hospital. You will be seen by the hospitalists and then discharged with all relevant information about the hospital stay. Don't limit your decision based on who goes to the hospital. They will see the baby for 1-3 days vs. the pediatrician you actually want for years to come.

Pick one closest to you. Preferably with sick/well waiting rooms. Your hospital ped doesn’t need to be who you’ll see later.

We really like CMA, though it may be less convenient for you than some of the others you have mentioned.

Most people see the hospitalist before discharge. Then go to their regular pediatrician when they are discharged. Unless you are anticipating health problems upon birth that having continuation of care is super important, it’s not necessary to see your regular pediatrician at the hospital.

Go with convenience. Pick one that is close and has convenient “I need to see you this morning because my kid is sick” procedures. If they have an on-site lab, that helps but not necessary.

PAA will see you in the hospital but they also want you to come in within maybe 48 hours of discharge? So really not that much longer. Anyway, they’re annoying me and we’re about to switch (I’m deciding between TPG Manchester Lakes and ALL Pediatrics in Lorton), so I wouldn’t recommend.

When I delivered at Inova Alexandria, Children's Medical Associates visited there, though that was 10 years ago. Regardless, they are amazing and we still see them in Alexandria, even though we live in DC.

ALL Pediatrics. Dr Peng or Dr Park. They’re the best

I used to really like Kidz Doc but feel like they have gone downhill in the last 5 years or so. I plan to switch my kids and will try one of the ones suggested here. Thanks PPs.

Another vote for ALL Pediatrics. We love Linda, the NP there and all the doctors are great too.

ALL Peds family here. Love them, particularly Dr. Park but we’ll see anyone in the practice.

We love PAA! I think as a first time parent, it might be a little tough in the beginning just because it’s a large practice. But you will always get a call back, they can always get your child in, and they have great hours. I hear great things about Kids Docs too- just a smaller practice.
