Dog ate meclizine and ER vet did not advise bringing him in. He won't vomit w hydrogen peroxide.

My 30 lb dog ingested 175 mg of Darmamine N.

Active Ingredients: In Each Tablet: Meclizine Hcl (25 Mg). Purpose: Antiemetic. Inactive Ingredients: Anhydrous Lactose, Corn Starch, Colloidal Silicon Dioxide, D&C Yellow 10, Aluminum Lake, Magnesium Stearate, Microcrystalline Cellulose.

I tried giving him 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide about 1.5 hours ago. We then went to play fetch for a bit. We've been inside for an hour now and he's not thrown up.

I've called my vets number which sends me to the local er vet. I called them and spoke to a woman who referred me to the local poison pet line.

I finally contacted an online vet and they don't seem concerned. Still. I'm concerned. He was wandering around following me for a while, then got loopy, and is now laid out at my feet staring around or napping. Is there anything any vet/experienced animal parents out there who can weigh in? I would have been more than happy to take him in to be seen but this did not seem to warrant that when I called.

Does anyone out there have experience with this?

I don’t know where you live in the DMV. But if you’re on the western side of Montgomery county, there’s a couple of emergency vets that you could take your dog to. One is on E. Gucci Dr. and the other one is on Nebel Street off Randolph Road. It goes without saying since I am suggesting emergency vet, that’s what I would recommend.

I would definitely talk to pet poison control. I think the fee is $75 but they know their stuff.

What more do you want, his stomach pumped? Dramamine isn’t a big deal.

OMG! I obviously use voice text and did not notice the typo before I hit send 🤭

Your dog ate just above the normal dose for his weight.

If he has serious side-effects, like seizures, coma, hallucinations, tachycardia, or severe urinary retention, he needs immediate intervention.

If he's unusually drowsy, or hyperactive, and has momentary trouble passing urine, you need to watch him carefully.

In the future, please don't try to induce vomiting without consulting a vet.
Is there a reason why you would disbelive the vet you talked to?

^ there is a wide range of safe dosage for this medication, because it's not dangerous until way above normal, OP.

Thank you. I didn't really disbelieve the vet I spoke with. If that vet had explained what you did I would have felt better about it. Instead, I was told "dogs usually sleep this off." I love my dog. Just wanted to get more input.

Thank you.

Calm down op! Observe your dog. If you are really worried you can feed him some activated charcoal but don't over do it.

Ugh OP sorry to hear this. So stressful!

I agree with PP who said poison control knows their stuff.

Our vet advised we call poison control when our dog ate a wipe (I think it may have been a hand sanitizing wipe). Vet at poison control was not concerned, other than making sure she passed the wipe. The $75 fee was waived because she is microchipped.
