Thoughts on Linder Academy?

Anonymous
Looks like they are very, very new with a first micro-school in McClean, and second school opening in Old Town this fall. The founder started as a tutoring service with glowing reviews for that business but there are no reviews on Niche, Google, or Great Schools for the actual school(s). Here's the link:

If you have any insights, would love to hear them before I reach out directly. Thanks.

I do not have experience with the new ventures, or subject area tutoring through Linder, but I can tell you that the homework “Hub” did not perform as advertised for my kid. It was presented as executive functioning support but was very superficial- little actual accountability or support for the student, and the time that my kid spent going there culminated in the worst quarterly grades of his academic career. We moved him to a different center and there is an enormous difference. Accountability, very specific and detailed understanding of his coursework, lengthy written follow up every day he goes. THAT is what the HUB seemed to offer but did not follow through on. They had an app with a checklist of items that had been submitted or not submitted, and not much more.

Perhaps the new venture will be great, but given my older kid’s experience, I wouldn’t send my younger kid there.

Ok, thanks PP. Does not bode well for an entire school built around similar principles. But I'll keep watch as things roll out.

If you don't mind me asking, which center worked for your child?

we found the same with the "HUB" very disappointed. would you mind sharing the center you ended up at?

We have been doing their HUB offering this year -- three afternoons/week for my DD who was having an awful time keeping up with distance learning. They have provided exactly what the PP was expecting and didn't get. I've been very happy. We also used them for 1-on-1 tutoring for DS during a rough patch in 9th grade.

As I understand the current offerings, this year they have essentially be running a full-day school for kids to go to do do DL, from K-12. Along with the after-school support options, which is what we needed.

All I know about Linder (Arlington location) was that my neighbor pulled her kids out and said it wasn’t worth the money. I didn’t press for details, but she seems annoyed by the company generally.

Thanks everyone. Very helpful. -OP

We know a family who went there and loves it. For them, it made a real difference. We are at another private school, so don't have direct experience, but I am not sure if the homework hub experience is directly relevant (to the school), so may be worth seeing if you can talk to any current families.

Where did you end up going for tutoring when you left Linder?

Probably the worst school you can go to. The most important thing about a school (and it is even hard to call this a school) is the teachers. The teachers at Linder are basically random people off the street who are looking for temporary positions. The lady running the show is really full of herself as well. I spent 5 minutes a night with my kids and taught them more than they learned in a week at Linder. The last three weeks of school they had no instructional material at all. Most weeks the kids watched at least one movie as well during school. Don't waste your money and more importantly don't hurt your kid's future by sending them to this "school". By the way, I never post reviews on anything, ever. This is one I felt compelled to write.

Bumping this to see if anyone has experience with the schools (especially the OT campus), rather than the hub.

We have a child at the OT campus. It is still early days and things are still settling, but so far so good. We have been impressed.

Thank you! It looks really good from the outside. We are definitely going to give it a look!

Would love any feedback on the school. Looking for options for 2e.
