Vet where you can go in with your pet?

My dog needs a shot and her teeth checked. We have always gone to Friendship and it’s been fine but I hate the way they do it now with the curbside dropoff. She is perfectly fine if I am there, but she gets scared when they take her away from me and now they insist on putting her in a muzzle because they said she’s being menacing. She now absolutely hates going to the vet; last time I went they literally dragged through in the door. She also needs her teeth checked and they told me I can take a pic and send it to them; they won’t check. 🙄 She always went in cheerfully and tail wagging with me before; it’s just too weird and stressful for her now and they don’t even try to calm her or coax her, that I’ve seen anyway. I’m done.

So, I’m looking for a new vet. Are there any in the area (DC or MD) who will allow the owner to come in? As an aside, I really don’t understand why they all still are using curbside—my doctor’s offices are open! I would follow any protocol (proof of vax, testing etc) if they would just let me come in with my dog.

Anyway thanks for any help or suggestions.

My sense is that some smaller practices are letting people in, but it's likely to be a long time before Friendship or any of the large hospitals do because the number of people, especially the number of clients whose vaccination status they can't monitor, is huge, and keeping that many people suitably separate would add enormously to their logistical load.

I don't know anything about the Family Pet Vet practice on Grubb Road in Silver Spring (1 block from the District Line, just south of EW Hwy), but I have seen them letting masked clients in when I've been in their parking lot. That might be worth looking into even though it's a little farther away, since there's parking immediately out front.

Another option would be a house call vet, though I don't know which of them are taking new clients. Your dog would undoubtedly be least stressed at home.

Thank you, Family Pet Vet looks great, but unfortunately it says on their website that they are not taking new patients. I’ve looked into some home vets but they don’t do dental care.

Any other leads?

I don’t know any event that’s taking clients in doors. Have you considered getting a prescription for some anti-anxiety medication that you can give your dog a half hour before an appointment? your vet knows your dog and should be able to prescribe something for you

I'll report back if I hear of any other options!

PP here again. Benson Animal Hospital on Cordell in Bethesda is a long-established practice. I've never used them but they helped me reunite a lost doggie and were very kind. Their website says they're taking new clients and under some circumstances letting one person at a time come in with their pet:https://www.bensonanimalhospitalbethesda.com/

Chevy Chase Vet on Conn. near the Beltway is also allowing one client in at a time: https://chevychasevet.com/

Google petvet.com or vippetcare.com . Mobile vet clinics that come to area pet stores for vaccines and basic health. Love them! It’s a mobile truck so you are right there with your dog.

Try Chevy Chase Veterinary Clinic. We took our pets for a pre-flight check-up a couple of months ago and we were allowed to go in with them (and so were the people that came in after us). The vet is very good and the office staff is really capable too.

OP here, thank you for these ideas, I’ll do some calling around on Monday!
