Wash toddler face?

Anonymous
Probably dumb question but how do you wash your toddlers face? Bath night is easier but I only use warm water for fear of getting soap in her eyes. Non bath nights I use one water wipe. But I feel like I need more now with sunscreen everyday. DD is 20 months. She has eczema so we bath every 3rd day in winter per doc advice and every other day in summer because of sunscreen. Do people use those special face wipes? What am I missing?

We do a bath every night. I'm not being snarky but how do you not? My toddler is absolutely disgusting by the end of every day.

Use baby soap and a washcloth.

Sorry- saw the eczema thing. Both my kids have bad eczema and the advice from our ped and allergist has always been to bathe every day. It helps. Maybe ask for a second opinion?

To your actual question, I would use a washcloth if you're not going a bath.

Warm wash cloth with some lingering soap on it

We bathe our 15 month old 2x per week, during which I was his face with a soapy wash cloth and rinse with a non-soapy wet washcloth. He doesn’t love it, doesn’t hate it, it’s over soon.

Then, after meals, we “spot clean” with a wet paper towel followed by a dry paper towel. He hates it, but we sing to him and it’s okay.

Yes. Toddler takes a shower every night and gets his face washed.

BTW, too dermatologists are now saying to bathe every day for excess. That no-bath thing is dated and disproven advice.

Omg..I didn't know that I need to apply soap to wash kid face. I have been using water only for years.

Use a mineral based sunscreen so you don't have to worry about mystery chemicals building up

Maybe s/he would be interested in learning to wash his/her own face

Washcloth lathered up with baby soap - use regular washcloths rather than baby ones bc they have some more texture to get the sunscreen off

Yeah I just use mineral sunscreen and my 3 year old now showers maybe every other day so just water on the face. He usually wipes his face with a wet towel after dinner dinner but it’s not a full wash.. guess we should do more now that you say it but he’s seemed fine and I’m just going to not add that to my list of worries and tasks

Same here unless the face feels visibly greasy.

You don't have to use soap. I use a clean, roughly textured washcloth after dinner to do her face and neck every day. She is getting to the point where she can do it on her own and I just have to follow up to make sure she gets it all.

I also don't think it's either a bath every day or every third day. Ours gets a bath or shower when she needs one. In the summer, on vacation or when she's in summer camp, that's probably every day. In January when she's spending less time outside and usually doesn't need sunscreen, we sometimes let it go 4 or 5 days depending on how she's doing with the potty. I personally find it way too limiting to have some hard and fast rule. It just depends and since she tends toward both dry skin and eczema, we definitely try not to over bathe.

If you’re concerned about eczema and drying out, just use a warm wet washcloth each night. Or a light baby wash like Aveeno eczema baby wash would work well.

If he fights you on wiping his face, let him do it himself. I have my two-year-old wipe her own face and hands with a wet washcloth after each meal while she’s still sitting at the table, and if I need to go in to get anything residual I do. Same at bathtime each night she washes herself and I’ll do another go over if needed.
