If you were waitlisted at a school and called the AD, did you find out anything useful?

Meant to do this but the days flashed by, and now they're on spring break. (Could I screw this whole process up any more?) Our child is waitlisted for K at Sidwell, Beauvoir, GDS, Maret.

My DC (who scored 99% in the Wechsler) is in the waiting list at Maret and GDS, and I called both schools. The answers I got were more detailed at GDS than at Maret, but in both cases I had the strong impression that admission directors reply in the same way to all callers. The very high number of siblings applying seems the main problem. I was very tempted to provoke them by asking "Does this mean that NOBODY else got in, apart from siblings? And if some children were admitted beyond siblings and alumni etc, what special qualities do those children have that my child doesn't?"
Bottom line: I don't think you missed anything important by not calling. Good luck.

Not sure if this thread is meant to apply to preschool, but my dd was waitlisted, so we emailed to say we were still interested, and they responded -- with good news. The school had a spot available. So that was a bit of serendipity.
