Back to School - What to Wear?

Anonymous
What are high school girls wearing these days? We are new to the Whitman District, and DD has been in pajamas and sweats for a year- now that the schools are opening up I would love to know where to look with her for clothes. Are high rise short shorts allowed? Are white sneakers a thing?

She's old enough to dress herself within reason

idk about the rules for shorts at Whitman. yes, white sneakers are trendy. my DD likes forever 21, American eagle outfitters and sometimes south moon under.

ignore the snarky comment from previous poster. being new in school is hard.

My teen girl said that no one is dressing nice now. Said the look is cute lounge wear. Soft tie dye patterns, matching sweat shirt/pants. Definitely white tennis shoes. Said the overall look is much more casual and relaxed.

Thank you so much for understanding. And to the other poster who made recommendations. Yes being new and having been isolated for so long can make a kid feel especially self conscious- you are so kind to help.

Same feedback here.. “softie clothes,” she says. Soft pants, flowy tops, white sneakers

Here are a few ideas - Cute boyfriend jeans, flow tops, slightly cropped t shirts and long sleeve Ts, soft colors. Try American Eagle, Madewell, H&M, Pac Sun, Urban Outfitters, Free People, Brandy Melville - just a few ideas, but honestly, just keep it simple the first few days and she'll figure it out. Def. the white tennis shoes - she will fit right in. Good luck with her new school

I wouldn’t advise short shorts if fitting in is her goal.

High school teacher with teens of my own who recently went back.

These are good ideas. The kids seem to be dressing in all sorts of things. Definitely comfortable clothes since they are still adjusting to being back after being at home in pjs for so long. My own DD just asked for more pastel colored thin shirts. She also likes tie dye.

Whitman girls do not have style. They wear shorts and t shirts, sweat shirts and sweat pants and pony tails. They permanently look like they are taking part in PE

My teen (been back since late October) has been wearing sweat pant shorts:lounge or bike shorts, loose or crop tops, a sweat jacket or hoodie, sweatpants or leggings and white sneakers or army boots. That is pretty much what all of her friends are wearing as well (plus flip flops which my DD does not wear).

Misogynist. Always attacking women for their looks, not men.
