Help! Making a chocolate cake and ran out of..

Anonymous
I'm making this cake. I measured out the unsweetened cocoa powder for the batter, but just realized I've got MAYBE a 1/2 cup left. My recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups. HELP!! I really don't want to make a grocery store run right now. Any suggestions on what I can do?

OP here, I forgot the link to the cake. It's this one:

Ugh, sorry. I think I should clarify. The recipe calls for an additional 1 1/2 cups for the frosting.

Do you have any other chocolate -- bars, chips, hot chocolate mix?

Can you do a different frosting, like vanilla?

Coffee grinds?

You can't frost right away until the cake cools off so you have plenty of time to make a quick grocery store run.

I was thinking this, too. Instant coffee powder, or super strong coffee brewed as a sort of syrup.

I thought I had a half a bag of milk chocolate chips left but I can't find them. My teen isn't fessing up, but I'm guessing he snacked on them.

Darnit! Maybe I'll google some recipes for vanilla frosting.

I have coffee grounds!! Thanks so much for the suggetion. Do you know how to sub it out?

I wouldn’t use coffee grounds. Coffee brings out chocolate flavor but by itself will be really bitter. Unsweetened chocolate is your best bet but sounds like you don’t have it. I would just make vanilla frosting. Delicious on chocolate cake and you just need butter, vanilla, milk and conf sugar.
If you try to use coffee, you’ll have coffee frosting. Don’t use ground coffee. Brew strong coffee and sub for the milk

Just search for an alternate chocolate frosting recipe that calls for less cocoa powder. Here's one for a chocolate cream cheese frosting that only calls for 1/2 cup of cocoa. Not sure what other ingredients you have though.
