Your favorite, most reliable brands and sources

We're doing a new build, so have to pick out everything from faucets and appliances to flooring. There was a thread on here recently about how crap Samsung refrigerators are (which I have in my current home, although it is eons better than the Electrolux I had in our last place) and I have had a surprisingly terrible time with Kitchen Aid dishwashers -- although I love my dual fuel double oven range combo from them. So that got me thinking: DCUM, what are your most beloved brands and sources for all the house "infrastructure" stuff?

I love my:

Miele dishwasher (and my Miele vacuum, for that matter)
Bosch induction cooktop
Stiebel Eltron electric tankless water heater

Wolf for a cooktop (my mom has had hers for 20 years and my mother in law has had hers for 10 with no issues). Bosch dishwasher. LG for washer/dryer. Samsung for TVs (my husband is crazy about picture quality, I don’t personally care but he raves about Samsung). Haven’t had success with a fridge yet, we just switched to a Bosch fridge, will see how it goes. For furniture, Bassett makes decent quality stuff and they have sales so the prices don’t break the bank and then I’ve been loving Safavieh rugs- cheap and extremely easy to clean with my boys and dogs.

Toto toilets. That's a rec from my dad, who does all his own fix it work.

+1. Toto is the only brand anyone should be looking at for toilets.

What is so great about them? (I have a one piece from Kohler, easy to clean and does the job - would like to know what I am missing — not interested in bidet functions).

As soon as we have to replace our existing commodes, we're going straight to Totos. They are water-efficient, easy to clean, and even the low-flow ones flush very effectively.

Like PP, I love my Miele dishwasher.

I don’t know exactly. We went toilet shopping with my dad and he was just adamant about Toto. He did say that the newer low flow toilets are getting better. So I think it has to do with the power of the flush.

Just to be contrarian, we've had great luck with our Kitchenaid dishwasher, but our Toto toilet only lasted 4 years.

How can a toilet, any toilet let alone one from the most touted brand, last only four years?

Also want to know, my plumber said you can flush a bag of marbles down a Toto toilet and it’ll be okay. So wondering what the story is there!

Where do you get a toto toilet? We only have lowes and home depot nearby.

Your plumber can order one for you from a plumbing supply warehouse. They’re not actually more expensive than Kohler. Or order yourself from one of the many online sources, and hire the plumber separately, or install yourself (it’s pretty easy).

You can order them online from Lowe’s or Home Depot and they’ll deliver.
