Enrichment activities for public school kids - both after school and on weekends

Anonymous
For those with kids in DCPS what enrichment activities are you enrolled in to make up for lack of arts/music, etc?

I'm also wondering if there are any other after school programs in the city that will pick the kids up from school and take them to their site. I've heard not good things about our school's after school program and would like to explore other options. Alternatively, does anyone have an afternoon babysitter who brings their child to lessons, etc? This would be most ideal - but is it difficult to find someone for only 3 hours/day? I can't afford a full time nanny.

Thanks!

What school will you be at?

If you're in the six schools cluster (I think it was six...), there's the Fillmore Arts after school program and summer camp. I don't know what their status is now though because they're housed at Hardy Middle School, which is currently undergoing renovations. Back when my kid was in elementary though she went to Fillmore programs in the afternoon -- usually working with professional artists, too.

OP here - we will be at Oyster, which is not one of the schools affiliated with Fillmore. Fillmore actually just added a second location (dubbed "Fillmore East") - great that they're expanding in the city - it's so needed!! We considered Stoddert in Glover Park due to its Fillmore association, yet also love the bilingual program at Oyster. It's a tough choice! I believe Key also is affiliated.
